Prospects to Watch on the Florida Complex League Astros

The Florida Complex League, a rookie level league down in Florida, begins play on their season today. The team is typically full of young and up and coming prospects before they reach their first full-season destination. Here are a few prospects to keep an eye on this season.

Ethan Wagner, OF

Wagner was selected by the Astros with their 17th round pick in the 2024, and was the only high schooler they drafted and signed. The 19-year-old outfielder is listed at 6’0″ and 215 lbs. and had a commitment to Tennessee. He hit .460 his last year for P27 Academy. The Astros have struggled with some of their high school selections recently, so hopefully Wagner can turn that around.

Sandro Pereira, INF

Pereira doesn’t have a lot of size, but he makes up for it in many other ways. Listed at 5’7″ and 147 lbs, Pereira is coming off his best season as a professional where he hit .331 in 44 games in the Dominican Summer League earning All-Star honors. Pereira doesn’t have a ton of pop, but he draws walks, steals bases, and limits strikeouts.

Hector Salas, INF

Salas was signed last June by the Astros out of the Dominican Republic. Last year in limited time in the DSL, the lefty hitting Salas posted a .406 OBP with more walks than strikeouts and stole 18 bases. He has good command of the strike zone and the ability to develop some more pop still.

Luis Rives, OF

Rives was signed by the Astros in the 2024 international signing period out of Cuba. Rives is a switch-hitting outfielder who hit .231 with 4 doubles, 2 home runs and 12 stolen bases last year in the FCL. The 20-year-old has a chance to get to full season quickly if he can come out of the gates hot.

Jagger Beck, RHP

Beck was one of the rare high school signings as an undrafted free agent. Beck, who is listed at 6’6″ and only 18 years old, was committed to Hawaii but the Astros were able to sign him away from that commitment. Beck tops out at 91 MPH right now and has boasted impressive spin rates so far. Read more on him here.
