Another busy week down on the farm as the season continues to roll on. Here’s a look at some of the biggest developments across the system with this week’s Pipeline Report.
System Spotlight
Arturo Flores – C – Fayetteville
Last week, Arturo Flores made history for the Woodpeckers. In the fourth inning of Friday’s game, Flores connected on a home run to right field to tie the game. The homer, his 16th of the season, set a new Fayetteville single-season record for home runs. Flores, who signed with the Astros in September 2024, took a unique path to professional baseball. After graduating high school in 2023, he signed with a team in the Mexican independent league before eventually joining the Astros organization.
The 20-year-old has put together a strong season for the Woodpeckers, hitting .262 with 17 home runs, 58 runs batted in and an .842 OPS over 79 games. He has been especially hot in August, batting .341 with a double, two home runs, 10 runs batted in and a .963 OPS over 13 games.
At just 20 years old, Flores has established himself as a legitimate catching prospect in the Astros system with some real power in his bat. His combination of age, position and power production makes him a prospect to keep an eye on moving forward.
Continuing to Impress
Owen Nowak – OF – Fayetteville
Nowak was selected by the Astros in the 12th round of the 2026 draft out of Middle Tennessee State. The 21-year-old was assigned to Fayetteville in early August and has been on a tear since making his professional debut. Through 14 games with the Woodpeckers, Nowak is hitting .400 with four doubles, three triples, five runs batted in and four stolen bases. He has also shown a strong approach at the plate, posting solid walk and strikeout rates in the early going.
Nowak has quickly adjusted to professional baseball and is already looking like another intriguing addition from the Astros’ 2026 draft class.
Under-the-Radar Performer
Ryan Verdugo – RHP – Fayetteville
Another 12th-round pick, Verdugo was selected by the Astros in the 2024 draft. He pitched just 7.2 innings in 2025 due to injury but is back healthy this season and has put together some impressive outings. While there have been some bumps along the way, Verdugo’s best starts have really stood out. In his most recent outing, he tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out eight.
Verdugo has also been extremely difficult to hit this season, allowing just 55 hits over 81 innings, good for a .197 batting average against. He has also racked up 84 strikeouts over that span. The Astros are currently using Verdugo as a starter, but there are some intriguing traits that could translate well to a bullpen role down the road. Either way, after barely pitching in 2025, his ability to stay healthy and miss bats this season has been an encouraging development.
One Transaction This Week
Jadyn Fielder – OF – Asheville
Fielder, the son of Prince Fielder and grandson of Cecil Fielder, was acquired by the Astros in the deal that sent Lance McCullers Jr. to Milwaukee. Since joining the Astros system, Fielder has played in 25 games, hitting .222 with five doubles, one home run and nine runs batted in.
With Asheville needing another outfielder, Fielder gets the call up to High-A. While the numbers since joining the Astros haven’t jumped off the page, he has a solid track record in the minors, posting an .818 OPS over 118 career games. The move to Asheville will give Fielder an opportunity to get back on track while facing a new level of competition.

- The Woodpeckers are 15-1 over their last 16 games and currently on a 9 game winning streak.
