Astros Minor League Recap: August 26th

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books. See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (66-61) lost 11-5 (BOX SCORE)

Burrows started for Sugar Land and allowed 3 runs over 4.1 innings while striking out 7. Sugar Land got on the board in the 4th inning on a Ferreras RBI groundout and Spence RBI single. The pen struggled though as Las Vegas scored 5 runs. In the 6th inning Sugar Land scored 2 runs on a Ferreras solo home run and Spence solo home run. Las Vegas scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th to extend their lead. Biggio added a solo home run in the 9th but that was it from the offense as Sugar Land fell 11-5.

Note: Biggio has a .829 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (57-65) lost 10-9 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Schiavone 2 run home run. Hertzler got the start and allowed 2 runs over 2.2 innings. The Hooks picked up 3 runs in the 4th inning on an Austin 2 run home run and Schiavone solo home run. The pen struggled allowing 8 runs as the Sod Poodles took the lead. The offense would rally four 4 runs in the 8th on a Thomas walk, Austin sac fly and Bush 2 run double. The comeback fell short though as the Hooks fell 10-9.

Note: Schiavone has 29 home runs this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (41-79) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Perez started for Asheville and was solid allowing 2 runs over 5 innings while striking out 5. The offense got on the board in the 5th inning on a Quiroz solo home run. In the 8th inning, Huezo tied the game on a solo home run of his own. The game went to extra innings and in the 11th, the Keys walked it off as Asheville fell 3-2.

Note: Huezo has 20 home runs this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (67-53)

Game One – won 11-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers jumped out to a big lead scoring 7 runs in the 2nd inning on a Flores RBI single, Galloway 2 run double, Durnin RBI single, Alvarez RBI double and Nowak RBI triple. Fraide got the start and went 4 innings allowing 3 runs. The offense got 4 more runs in the 3rd inning on a Durnin walk, Hughes 2 run single and a run on an error. The pen allowed a run but held on for the 11-4 win.

Note: Alvarez has 26 doubles this season.

Game Two – won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Durnin sac fly and Hughes RBI single. Serrano got the start and went 4.2 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Estridge allowed a run in relief and Thomas came on for the final out as he recorded the save in the 2-1 win.

Note: Hughes has an active 15 game hit streak.
