Astros Potential Breakout Prospects For 2025

Every year I try to predict a breakout prospect. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But one thing we have seen is almost every year the Astros have a guy that comes out of nowhere to establish himself in the system as a legitimate top prospect. I will select a few who could breakout, and I’m looking at guys that might not be very well known. Let’s get to the list.

Chase Jaworsky, SS

Jaworksy was the Astros 5th round pick in 2023, and signed for $800k, nearly $500k overslot. Jaworsky is a smooth athlete listed at 6’1″ and 170 lbs. He is a righty thrower, lefty hitter. Scouts have noted he has a strong arm, good range at shortstop and a smooth left-handed swing. He has some pop but more for doubles right now. In 2024, Jaworksy played at 19-years-old for Fayetteville and was solid improving each month. He finished with 20 doubles, 4 homers and 28 stolen bases in 78 games including slashing .290 BA/.379 OBP/.420 SLG with 10 doubles, 1 homer, 15 RBIs, 10 stolen bases over his final 28 games before a hand injury ended his season. 2025 could be a huge year for him in Asheville. Yeriel Santos, RHP

Santos was signed by the Astros as an international free agent back in 2022. The right-hander made his full season debut last year for Fayetteville and was solid posting a 4.11 ERA with 104 strikeouts in 100.2 innings, allowing just 75 hits, all while being just 20-years-old. The only downside was some walks, though he improved from 2023 to 2024. Santos has a mid 90s fastball with a changeup and a curveball. While he most likely starts the year in High-A, which is a hitter’s paradise, he could move quickly with a strong performance early.

Joseph Sullivan, OF

Sullivan was the Astros 7th round pick in 2024 after a solid college career at South Alabama. The outfielder was a mid round selection but has a lot upside. He is a great athlete with plus speed and the chance to stick in center field. Sullivan grades well on swing decisions and has good raw power. He has a great makeup and has an edge to him in the weight room and on the field. In 2024 after the draft, Sullivan played in 20 games and hit .250 with 13 walks, 11 strikeouts, 5 doubles and 8 stolen bases for the Woodpeckers. The Astros are very excited for him and 2025 could be a big year for him.
