The Woodpeckers roster has been intriguing from the start of the season, featuring a talented group of young players who represent the next wave of prospects in the Astros system. Throughout the year, they have put together plenty of impressive performances, but Tuesday night in Fayetteville, they did something the franchise had never seen before.

In the sixth inning against Delmarva, Anthony Huezo got things started when he connected on an opposite-field solo home run to extend the Woodpeckers’ lead. The very next batter, top prospect Xavier Neyens, stepped in and crushed a 1-1 pitch to right field for back-to-back home runs.

Then, fellow top prospect Kevin Alvarez followed with a 2-1 pitch that he drove into right-center field, completing the first back-to-back-to-back home run stretch in Fayetteville Woodpeckers franchise history.

Three consecutive batters. Three home runs. All left-handed hitters. A historic moment for the Woodpeckers and another reminder of the amount of young talent coming through the Astros farm system.

Huezo, selected by the Astros in the 12th round of the 2023 MLB Draft, is putting together a true breakout season. He currently leads the Astros farm system in doubles and triples with 18 and 4, respectively, while also adding 14 home runs this season, just one shy of tying the Woodpeckers’ single-season franchise record.

Neyens, the Astros’ first-round pick in 2025, is also making a strong impression in his first professional season. The young infielder has already hit 10 home runs and posted a .850 OPS, showing the power and offensive approach that made him one of the top picks in the draft.

Alvarez, who received a significant signing bonus after signing out of Cuba, continues to impress as one of the younger players in the system. At just 18 years old, he is hitting .261 and showing why the Astros were excited to add him to the organization.

It was a special night in Fayetteville, as the Woodpeckers won 9-1, and a great showcase of the young talent developing throughout the Astros system. Three young prospects. Three home runs. One historic moment for the Woodpeckers.
