Astros Prospect Hotlist: Week Seventeen

For this piece, I will highlight the top performers at the plate and on the mound from the previous week of play. Below is the hotlist for Week Seventeen. Here is last week’s hotlist.

Who’s Hot At The Plate?

Shay Whitcomb – Whitcomb, who has had a great season, put together a monster week. In 6 games, the 25-year-old connected on 4 homers and drove in 10 runs while batting .458. Overall this year he is hitting .302 with 24 homers, 88 runs batted in and 26 stolen bases.

Zach Dezenzo – Dezenzo repeats here on the list after making it last week following his promotion. In 6 games for Sugar Land, he hit .333 with 2 doubles, 2 homers and 7 runs batted in. He is hitting .306 with a .903 OPS overall this season.

John Garcia – Garcia has experienced a breakout season and this week he was great. In four games, the 23-year-old catcher hit .539 with 2 doubles, a homer and 2 runs batted in. Overall, he is hitting .297 in 76 games this season in High-A.

Yamal Encarnacion – Encarnacion has been solid this year but had one of his better weeks this week for the Woodpeckers. In 6 games this week he hit .417 collecting 10 hits to include a double and a triple. He also stole 3 bases giving him 33 this season.

Who’s Hot On The Mound?

Ryan Gusto – Gusto has been unreal of late, and this week was no different. He made two starts going 6.2 scoreless in the first and then 7.1 scoreless in the second. He has a 0.79 ERA over his last 7 starts allowing just 26 hits in 45.2 innings, good for a .168 BAA.

Joey Mancini – Mancini has been rolling this season, and even better since joining the Hooks. This week he struck out 7 over 4.1 scoreless innings. He now has a 1.50 ERA in Double-A and a 1.97 ERA with 78 K in 77.2 innings overall this season.

Trey Dombroski – Dombroski repeats here after a good outing last week. The left-hander was promoted to Double-A and tossed 4 scoreless innings in his debut. He has a 0.76 ERA with 24 K in 23.2 innings over his last 7 outings.

Edinson Batista – Batista has been up and down this season but this week he showed some dominance. In his one start, the right-hander struck out 7 over 5 scoreless innings. He has 82 K in 86.1 innings this season for Asheville.
