Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 5th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (63-50) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno is really playing good baseball. The Grizzlies got on the board first with a 2 run single from Kemp in the 2nd inning. Valdez made the start for the Grizzlies and once again was very good. He went 6 innings allowing 2 runs with 5 strikeouts. Fresno added another run in the 3rd on a Kemmer solo HR. Gustave pitched the 7th and 8th striking out 2 and not allowing any runs. Jankowski came on for the 9th and shut the door sealing the win for Fresno.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (67-45) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

It took 11 innings but Corpus was able to walk away with the win. Laureano led off the game with a solo HR, his 2nd HR in AA. Sneed got the start for the Hooks and pitched well allowing just 1 unearned run over his 6 innings of work. The game stayed tied at 1 until the 10th inning when Hyde scoring on a bunt single from Nunez. Midland battled back and tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Corpus struck again though in the 11th on a Hyde RBI single. Peterson was able to close it out with a scoreless 11th.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (62-49) won 13-8 (BOX SCORE)

Wild game in Lancaster. The Jethawks got on the board early with a 2 run HR from Woodward in the 1st inning. In the 3rd inning Ferguson had a 2 run single to extend Lancaster’s lead. Bostick was cruising along before running into trouble in the 4th and 5th. He finished going 6 innings allowing 7 runs. Lancaster battled back though with a solo HR from Sewald in the 5th and a Ferguson solo HR and Marlow 2 run HR in the 6th inning. The Jethawks blew it open with 5 runs in the 8th inning. Ferguson capped off that inning with a 3 run HR, his 2nd HR of the game and 11th of the season. Weathersby allowed 1 run over the final 3 innings of the game.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (53-57) won 11-4 (BOX SCORE)

Big time win for Quad Cities last night. They got off to a great start scoring 3 runs in the 1st inning on a Birk RBI triple, McCall sac fly, and a Tucker solo HR. They added another 3 runs on a 3 run double from Birk. Quad Cities really blew the game open in the 6th inning putting up 4 runs on a Straw RBI double, Birk RBI single, and a 2 run double from McCall. Valdez got the start allowing 3 earned runs over his 6 innings of work. Straw wasn’t done though as he added an RBI triple in the 9th inning. Murphy allowed 1 run over the final 3 innings of the game.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (26-21) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (23-19) lost 10-6 (BOX SCORE)
