Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 19th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (66-59) lost 11-7 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno fell behind early but would battle. De La Rosa made his Fresno debut but got roughed up giving up 7 runs in 4 innings. Fresno got their scoring started in the 3rd on a 2 run HR from Moran, his 9th of the season. In the 4th inning they put up 4 runs to bring to make it a 7-6 game. In that inning they got a solo HR from Kemmer, Aplin RBI double, Fisher RBI single, and Moran RBI single. The game stayed at 7-6 until Omaha added 3 more runs in the 6th and 1 in the 9th. Fresno did get a run in the 9th on an RBI groundout but that is all they would get as they fell 11-7.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (74-50) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Thornton continued his quality pitching with Corpus last night. He tossed 6 shutout innings with 5 strikeouts. The Hooks got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Ramsay RBI single and a sac fly from Nunez. Boyd connected on an RBI double in the 4th inning to extend the lead to 3-0. Hooks manufactured a run in the 7th to take a 4-0, which they took into the 9th. In the 9th, Arkansas battled putting up 3 runs in the 9th but Dorris came and closed it out.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (70-54) won 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster has quietly put together a very good season. Dykxhoorn got the start last night going 5 inning allowing 2 earned runs with 4 strikeouts. The Jethawks got two runs in the 3rd on Duarte and Muniz RBI singles. They would add two more in 5th on on a Ritchie RBI single and a Martin RBI groundout. The game would stay 4-3 going to the 9th thanks to scoreless outings from Winkelman and Deemes. In the 9th the Jethawks played add on getting two more runs on a Woodward 2 run double. Deemes came back out for the 9th and closed it out.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (58-65) won 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

Nice win for Quad Cities last night. Perez got the start and was great allowing just 1 run over 5.2 innings with 7 strikeouts. The River Bandits got on the board with a Roa solo HR in the 3rd inning. Quad Cities got two more in the 5th on Hermelyn and Trompiz RBI singles. The River Bandits capped their night with 4 runs in the 7th inning thanks to a McCall 2 run double, Cesar RBI double, and Wrenn RBI single. Santos struck out 6 over 3.1 innings allowing just 1 run and picking up the save.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (32-27) lost 7-4 (BOX SCORE)

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (28-27) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)
