Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 17th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the book. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (30-36) lost 10-4 (BOX SCORE)

Rough night for Musgrove. He allowed 6 earned runs in 5 innings of work with 1 BB/3 K. Fresno got on the board with a Mayfield RBI single in the 4th inning. They would get 3 more runs in the 7th with a 2 run single from Duffy and an RBI triple from Tucker. Guduan tossed two scoreless innings in relief. Unfortunately, Jankowski gave up 4 runs in the 8th which put the game out of reach.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (44-23) won 10-3 (BOX SCORE)

Huge 7th inning lifts Hooks to the win. Sneed got the start for Corpus last night and pitched well going 5 innings allowing 2 runs with 7 strikeouts. Corpus got 2 runs in the 5th inning with a Vasquez RBI single and another run scoring on an error. Smith allowed 1 run in his 3 innings of work. The game would go into the 7th tied at 3 and Corpus exploded for 7 runs. In the 7th they got an RBI single from Moon, RBI single from Tanielu, RBI walk from Gregor and a grand slam from Hyde. Sanudo pitched a scoreless 9th to close out the game.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (34-33) lost 12-5 (BOX SCORE)

Bower got the start but was roughed up giving up 10 runs, 6 earned over 3.2 innings. Lancaster got on the board with a sac fly from Nunez in the 2nd innings. In the Martin hit a 3 run HR, his 12th HR of the season. Comer and Thompson both had scoreless outings but Lancaster only managed four hits on the night.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (29-38) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Rough night for the offense as they only managed the one run in 14 innings. The one run came on a Duarte solo HR in the 3rd inning. Perez got the start and went 5 innings allowing 1 run with 6 strikeouts. McCanna and Garza both tossed 4 scoreless innings in relief. Unfortunately, Whitt gave up a run in the 14th and QC was unable to come back.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (1-0) won 13-1 (BOX SCORE)

Tri-City got the season off right with a blowout win. Bostick got the start and went 6 shutout innings with 0 BB/2 K. Wrenn lead-off the bottom of the first with a solo HR, his first professional HR. The ValleyCats put up 5 runs in the 5th inning thanks to a Cameron 2 run double, Jones RBI double, Rogers RBI double, and Mejia RBI double. Tri-City would have another big inning in the 7th with another 5 runs. In the 7th they got an RBI single from Benedetti and a grand slam from Jones. Kessay pitched the final 3 innings allowing 1 run with 7 strikeouts.
