This will be your weekly look at the hottest prospects in the system, highlighting the top performers at the plate and on the mound. Below is the hotlist for Week Three. Check out the previous week’s hotlist here.
Who’s Hot At The Plate?
Jeron Williams – Williams started the season on the injured list but came back healthy, and in a new position of outfield. This week he was solid for the Hooks hitting .375 with a double, a home run, 4 runs batted in and a stolen base. Plenty of upside left in Williams still.
Ethan Wagner – Wagner was drafted by the Astros in the 17th round of the 2024 draft out of high school. He is playing in the FCL right now and had a nice week hitting .300 with a double, a home run, 5 runs batted in and a stolen base. He even had more walks than strikeouts.
Xavier Neyens – Neyens has put together a nice month of May and was solid this week hitting .357 over 4 games. While he didn’t connect on any extra base hits, he continued to up his OBP which now sits at .436 on the season.
Josh Wakefield – Wakefield got off to a hot start but after a little cool down, he turned in a nice week for the Woodpeckers. In six games he hit .318 with 2 runs batted in and 5 stolen bases. He’s hitting .268 with 20 stolen bases, which is second in the system.
Who’s Hot On The Mound?
Cole Hertzler – Hertzler has been the best pitcher in the system this year and he was great this week for Asheville. In one start, the right-hander struck out 9 over 6 innings allowing 1 run. He’s up to 49 strikeouts over 33.1 innings with a 2.70 ERA overall this season.
Jagger Beck – Beck, signed as an undrafted free agent out of high school, has been great this year and this week he was dominant. In one outing, he struck out 7 over 4 scoreless innings. On the season, Beck has 33 K in 24.2 innings with a 3.28 ERA at just 19 years old.
Brett Gillis – Gillis has been in the system for a few years but had arguably his best pro performance this week. In his one start for the Hooks, the right-hander struck out 6 over 6 scoreless innings. He’s 4th in the system in innings pitched this season.
Kellan Oakes – Oakes was drafted by the Astros in the 9th round of the 2025 draft and followed up a good outing last week with another strong one this week. In his one outing he struck out 8 over 4 innings allowing just 1 hit. He has 32 K in 24.2 innings this season.
Leomar Rosario – Rosario has some of the best stuff in the system with a fastball that touches 101 MPH. This week he was dominant tossing 4 no-hit innings while striking out 10. While the walks are an issue for him, if he locates the fastball he can be dominant.
