Astros Minor League Recap: August 28th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (63-63) won 9-8 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning when Whitcomb connected on a 3 run home run. Fleury got the start and was solid allowing 3 runs, all on a homer, over 5 innings with 5 strikeouts. The offense got a run in the 4th on a Cole solo HR and another in the 5th on a Singleton RBI double. The Isotopes would scored 4 runs in the 8th inning to take the lead. In the bottom of the 8th, the offense rallied for 2 runs to tie it up on Barber and Corona RBI singles. The Isotopes got a run in the 9th to take the lead. In the bottom of the 9th, Palma walked it off with a 2 run HR, his first Triple-A home run.

Note: Whitcomb has a .888 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (43-79) lost 9-7 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Clarke solo HR. They got another run in the 3rd inning on a Sullivan RBI single. The offense added 3 runs in the 5th on a Clarke 3 run HR. Hicks got the start and went 4 innings allowing 6 runs, 5 earned. The pen allowed 3 runs as the Drillers extended their lead. The offense got 2 runs back in the 8th on a wild pitch and Austin groundout but that was it as the Hooks fell 9-7.

Note: Clarke has a .929 OPS with the Hooks.


A+: Asheville Tourists (50-69) lost 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

DeVos got the start and allowed 2 runs over 3.2 innings. The pen was solid until the 9th inning when Torres allowed 3 runs as the Spartanburgers extended their lead. The offense got 2 runs in the 9th inning on wild pitches, but that was it as Asheville fell 5-2.

Note: Langford has a 2.81 ERA this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (65-58) lost 7-0 (BOX SCORE)

Verdugo started for the Woodpeckers but struggled allowing 4 runs over 1.2 innings. The bullpen allowed another 3 runs as the Pelicans extended their lead. The offense struggled on the night collecting just 4 hits as the Woodpeckers were shutout in the 7-0 loss.

Note: Frey has a .789 OPS this season.
