Astros Minor League Recap: April 2nd

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (5-1) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Gordon got the start for Sugar Land and despite allowing 2 runs in the first, he went 5 innings allowing just those 2 runs while racking up 4 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Winkler RBI double and Perez 2 run double to take a 3-2 lead. The bullpen was phenomenal tossing 4 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit as they closed out the 3-2 win.

Note: Gordon has a 2.70 ERA through two starts this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (0-1) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Hicks started for the Hooks but struggled a bit allowing 9 runs over 4 innings allowing 4 runs, 3 earned. The offense got on the board in the 5th on a bases loaded hit by pitch. The Hooks’ bullpen pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings but the offense struggled the rest of the way as the Hooks dropped the opener, 5-1.


A+: Asheville Tourists (1-0) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE

Hetzler got the opening night start for Asheville and turned in a solid performance striking out 5 over 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. The offense got on the board in the 5th inning on a Nunez sac fly. Taylor came in for relief and was pitching well until the 8th where he allowed a 3 run HR as Rome took the lead. In the 9th, Asheville loaded the bases and Nunez came through with a clutch 2 run double to tie it. Schiavone gave Asheville the lead as he followed with a sac fly.

Note: Hertzler has allowed 3 earned runs over 25.2 professional innings.
