Astros Acquire Multiple Prospects in Deadline Deals

The big move today was the Astros acquiring Zack Greinke for multiple top prospects, but that wasn’t all that happened. Luhnow made a flurry of other moves, including trading Max Stassi and Derek Fisher. Here is some information on those deals.

Cal Stevenson Acquired From Blue Jays

Derek Fisher was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for Aaron Sanchez, Joe Biagini, and prospect Cal Stevenson. Plenty will be wrote on the ML guys. Here is some information on Stevenson:

Stevenson is an outfielder drafted in the 10th round of the 2018 draft out of the University of Arizona. He hit .323 at the NCAA level with more walks than strikeouts. He was recently ranked #25 in the Blue Jays system by MLB. He has a good feel for the strike zone and constantly barrels up baseballs. He doesn’t have much power, but is a good baserunner. This year in High-A he was slashing .298/.388/.393 with 5 HR, 50 RBI, 50 BB/52 K in 90 games. MLB also notes that he is a good defender with a chance to stick in center field.

Rainier Rivas and Raider Uceta Acquired From Angels

The Astros traded Max Stassi to the Angels for two very young prospects in Rainier Rivas and Raider Uceta. Here is some information on both prospects:

Uceta is a left handed hitting outfielder signed out of the Dominican Republic by the Angels for $500,000 in 2017. Uceta is well built at 6-0, 215 lbs and has above average raw power. Baseball America noted that Uceta has natural loft in his swing and is currently a power over bat prospect. He doesn’t have many other tools and should profile as a corner outfielder or first baseman. He is currently hitting .278 with .714 OPS in the Arizona Rookie League. He turned 18 in January.

Rivas is very intriguing. He was signed out of Venezuela for $200,000 but is massive. He was 6-3, 200 lbs at the signing but Baseball Reference has him up to 220 now. He is also a lefty hitting outfielder. Baseball America noted that he also possesses good power with natural lift. He has also shown a patient approach at the plate. He profiles as a corner outfielder. So far this season between the DSL and AZL he is hitting .342 with .933 OPS and 18 BB/26 K in 34 games. He just turned 18 in June.
