Astros Minor League Recap: May 16th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (15-24) lost 11-6 (BOX SCORE)

One bad inning really ruined the game for Fresno. Moran got the scoring started for Fresno in the 2nd inning connecting on a solo HR to center, his 5th HR of the season. Martinez got the start and got roughed up allowing 9 runs in just 3,1 innings with 7 of them coming in the 4th. White tried to bring them back with a 3 run HR in the bottom of the 4th. Fresno would get 2 more in the 9th on Reed and Centeno RBI doubles but it wasn’t enough.

Note: Moran has 2 HR in 4 games since returning from the DL

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (18-20) won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Smith started last night for the Hooks and continued his stretch of solid pitching. He went 5 innings allowing just 1 run with 4 strikeouts. Singleton got the Hooks on the board with a solo HR in the 4th inning, his 3rd HR in the last 4 games. Corpus played add on in the 6th getting a solo HR from Davis. In the 9th they would add 2 more insurance runs on an RBI double from Davis and an RBI single from Laureano. Hiraldo and Thome both tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief.

Note: Kyle Smith has allowed 3 ER over his 20 IP

A+: Buies Creek Astros (24-15) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Perez got the start and was money last night. He tossed 6 shutout innings, striking out 7 with no walks. The game started great for Buies Creek. Straw drew a lead-off walk and Martin immediately drove him in with a 2 run HR. Buies Creek added two more in the 2nd inning on a Michelena 2 run double. Those four runs were plenty for Perez. de Oleo added an RBI single in the 8th for a little extra insurance.

Note: Perez now has 47 K in 33.2 IP between Quad Cities and Buies Creek.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (18-18) won 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

Quad Cities didn’t waste any time getting out to a lead in this one getting a run in the 1st on a Robinson RBI triple and 3 in the 2nd on an Alvarez RBI double, Duarte sac fly, and Ayarza RBI single. Benedetti played add-on in the 4th with an RBI double to make it 5-0. Hunt got the start and while he only went 3.2 innings, he allowed just 1 hit and no runs. Robinson added a run in the 7th on an RBI single to make it 6-1.  Alvarez capped off the game with a 2 run HR in the 8th inning to make it 8-1. Williams and Montano had scoreless outings in relief.
