Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 9th
Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.
AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (46-42)
GAME 1 – won 5-0 (BOX SCORE)
Big time game for Peacock. He pitched a complete game shutout (7 innings) allowing just 2 hits and striking out 12. Fresno got on the board in the 4th inning with a 2 run double from White. In the 5th Singleton added a 2 run double to extend the lead to 4-0. The Grizzlies would get one more run in the 6th on a sac fly from Kemp and that was more than enough for Peacock as he dominated the Reno lineup.

GAME 2 – won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)
Fresno sweeps the doubleheader. Fresno got the scoring started in the 2nd inning with an RBI single from Kemp and an RBI groundout from Teoscar. Jankowski got the start and went the first 3 innings allowing just 1 earned run. In the 4th inning Teoscar added an RBI single to give them the lead. Fresno entered the bottom of the 6th in a 3-3 tie and Stassi hit a 2 out, solo HR to give them the lead. Hoyt pitched a scoreless 7th to seal the win for Fresno,

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (56-30) won 7-6 (BOX SCORE)
Big comeback win for the Hooks. Emanuel got the start and struggled giving up 6 runs in the first 2 innings. Smith came in and relieved him and did a great job. He tossed four scoreless innings to keep Tulsa in check. Corpus finally got on the board in the 6th with a Pena RBI groundout. They entered the 7th down 6-1. The inning started off with two straight outs and then the rallied started. They got RBIs from Garcia, Pena, and a 2 run double from Ramsay to take the lead 7-6. Cotton and West finished the game throwing a combined 3 scoreless innings.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (44-42) lost 6-2 (BOX SCORE)
Inland Empire took this one late. Lancaster scored first in the 4th inning with RBIs from Martin and Woodward, Deetz was on the mound for Lancaster and was great the first 5 innings not allowing a run. Unfortunately, he ran into a bit of trouble in the 6th and 7th and ended up giving up 3 runs, 2 earned. He finished going 7 innings allowing 5 hits and striking out 6. McCanna pitched in relief and gave up 3 more runs but Lancaster was unable to rally.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (40-46) lost 3-0 (BOX SCORE)
Slow night for the River Bandits’ bats. On the night they only managed five hits with two of them coming from Straw and two coming from Tucker. Abreu got the start, and while he didn’t pitch bad, there just wasn’t any run support. Abreu finished allowing 3 runs over 5 innings. Murphy and Garza combined for four scoreless to end it. Tucker did pick up a stolen base, his 28th on the season.

The ValleyCats have worked their way back to .500. Chavez got the start and continued his hot streak tossing 5 scoreless innings lowering his ERA to 1.00 on the season. Tri-City got on the board in the 4th with an RBI double from Jones. They would add another run in the 5th on a Wrenn RBI single, another run in the 6th on a Jones RBI single, and the last run in the 7th on a DeGoti RBI double. Perez gave up 3 runs in relief but Hernandez came in and struck out the side in the 9th to pick up the save.
