Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 8th
Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.
AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (44-42) lost 9-4 (BOX SCORE)
Shirley got the start for Fresno last night and got roughed up early giving up 6 runs in 4.1 innings. The Fresno offense was silent outside of one inning. In the bottom of the 6th, White hit a grand slam, his 3rd consecutive game with a HR. Teoscar also finished with 2 hits to include a double but Fresno was unable to get anything else going.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (55-30) lost 14-5 (BOX SCORE)
Rough game as Springfield hit 7 homeruns last night. Grills got the start for the Hooks and gave up 11 runs over his 5 innings of work. Corpus got on the board in the 3rd inning on a grand slam from Fisher, his 14th HR of the season. In the 5th inning Stubbs hit a solo HR, his first HR in AA and his 7th HR overall. Unfortunately that is all the Hooks would get as they take the loss 14-5.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (44-41) won 4-0 (BOX SCORE)
Jethawks shutout Inland Empire last night. Armenteros got the started and tossed 6 scoreless innings with 8 strikeouts. He now has a 2.67 ERA with 74 K in 60.2 innings for Lancaster. Lancaster got on the board in the first with an RBI double from Woodward. They would score again in the 5th on a sac fly from Nunez. Marlow added insurance with a 2 run HR in the 9th to make it 4-0. Comer and Dorris combined to pitch the last 3 innings without giving up a run.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (40-45) won 7-1 (BOX SCORE)
River Bandits keep working their way back to .500. Perez was on the mound for Quad Cities last night and gave up 1 run over 5 innings of work, striking out 6. Quad Cities first got on the board with an RBI single from Wernes in the 5th inning. In the 6th inning they added 3 runs with 2 runs scoring on wild pitches and a Trompiz RBI single. The River Bandits capped the game off with 3 more runs in the 7th on a 3 run double from Hermelyn. Person returned with a scoreless inning in relief and Ferrell closed the game with 3 shutout innings to pick up the save.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (10-11) won 7-3 (BOX SCORE)
Two big innings lift the ValleyCats to the win. The game was scoreless until the 4th inning. In the 4th inning Tri-City scored 4 runs on a 2 run HR from Wrenn and a 2 run HR from Johnson. They got 3 more runs in the 6th with a run scoring on a fielder’s choice and then RBI singles from Mejia and DeGoti. Valdez got the start for Tri-City and had a nice outing allowing just 1 earned run over 6 innings with 7 strikeouts. Santos struck out 7 in the final 3 innings giving up 2 runs.
