Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 5th
Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.
AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (43-41) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)
Musgrove got the start for the Grizzlies last night and pitched well. He went 5 innings allowing 2 runs, both in the 4th, with 0 walks to 6 strikeouts. Fresno got on the board in the 2nd inning with a solo HR from White, his 4th in AAA. Fresno was down 2-1 in the 7th but rallied for 3 runs thanks to an RBI single from Aplin and a 2 run double from Stassi. The Grizzlies would get another run in the 8th on a Moran RBI single. McCurry tossed two scoreless innings followed by scoreless inning from Fields. Hoyt came on in the 9th and picked up his 22nd save.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (54-29) won 7-5 (BOX SCORE)
Mayfield stays hot in win for Corpus. Sneed got the start and this one and rolled through the first five innings. He ended up giving up 3 runs in 6.1 innings of work. Corpus got on the board in the first inning on a 2 run HR from Mayfield. The Hooks got 4 runs in the 3rd inning on RBI doubles from Davis, McDonald and Hyde. Mayfield added another run with a sac fly in the 8th inning. West closed the game with 1.2 scoreless innings.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (42-41) won 10-7 (BOX SCORE)
Nice win for Lancaster. The Jethawks got the scoring started with a Muniz sac fly in the first. In the 2nd inning the Jethawks would drop a 6 spot thanks to a bases loaded walk to Sewald, Laureano 2 run single, Muniz 2 run single, and Muniz scoring on a balk. James started for Lancaster and gave up 5 runs over 6 innings with 6 strikeouts. Lancaster added 2 more runs in the 7th on RBI singles from Nunez and Sewald. Dorris picked up the save tossing 2.2 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (38-45) lost 2-0 (BOX SCORE)
Pitching was solid but the bats went quiet. Quiala got the start and had one of his better outings of the season going 7 innings and allowing just 1 earned run. Offensively the River Bandits couldn’t get anything going and only managed five hits, 2 of them doubles. Murphy pitched two scoreless innings to finish the game but the 2 runs Beloit got early was too much.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (9-11) lost 7-5 (BOX SCORE)
Tough loss late for the ValleyCats. Pinales got the start in this one and pitched well going 5 innings and giving up just 1 run. In the 5th inning Birk hit a sac fly, which tied the game at 1. Tri-City entered the bottom of the 7th down 4-1 but Birk came through with an RBI double and Mejia added an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 4-3. In the 9th inning Birk hit a solo HR to tie the game at 4 and send it to extras. Unfortunately State College put up 3 runs in the 11th and Tri-City was only able to respon with a Robinson solo HR.
