Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 10th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (46-42) OFF

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (56-31) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

Frias was on the mound for the Hooks started out well but ended up giving up 5 runs in 5 innings of work. Corpus responded with 3 runs in the 4th thanks to an RBI single from McDonald and a 2 run single from Hyde. The Hooks entered the 7th inning down 6-3 but was able to tie the game on a Mayfield 3 run HR. Unfortunately, Freeman gave up a run in the bottom of the 7th and the Hooks were unable to respond.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (45-42) won 17-0 (BOX SCORE)

Big win for Lancaster as everything went right. Bostick got the start for the Jethawks and had his best outing of the season. He finished with 7 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit and 6 strikeouts. Lancaster got the night started off right with 5 runs in the first inning with an RBI single from Laureano, RBI walk from Ritchie, and a 3 run double from Marlow.  In the 5th inning they added 2 more runs on a Ballard 2 run double. They had another huge inning in the 6th scoring 5 runs on a Martin 2 run HR and a Marlow 2 run HR. Ferguson added an RBI double in the 8th to extend the lead. Adding to his already big night, Marlow had another RBI hit in the 9th giving him 6 RBI on the night. Thome tossed two scoreless innings to close the game.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (40-47) lost 12-5 (BOX SCORE)

One big inning cost QC the win. Elieser Hernandez got the start and was great as he struck out 8 batters in 5 scoreless innings. The River Bandits picked up their first run on a Roa RBI double in the 2nd. Roa added an RBI triple in the 4th to make it 2-0. Hernandez left the game up 2-0 but Schmidt and Whitt combined to give up 8 runs in the 6th inning. Quad Cities attempted to rally with 3 in the 8th thanks to a Porter 2 run single and Trompiz sac fly but it wasn’t enough as Clinton picked up four more in the 9th.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (12-11) won 5-3 (BOX SCORE

Another win for the ValleyCats. Tri-City was scoreless until the 4th where they put up a four spot on West Virginia. All four runs came from a Johnson grand slam, his 2nd HR with Tri-City. Nicely got the start and gave up 3 runs over 5 innings. Tri-City would add to the lead with an RBI single from Ayarza in the 5th. Hill tossed two scoreless innings in relief and Stutzman picked up his 2nd save of the season with a scoreless 9th.

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (7-11) won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)
