Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 9th

All four full season teams as well as the DSL squads in action. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (25-33) lost 12-10 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno battled back but couldn’t quite overcome the early deficit. Shirley got the start but got roughed up early giving up 9 runs in 2.1 innings. Fresno started their comeback with an RBI single from Heineman in the 4th inning. In the 5th, Fresno scored two more on a 2 run double from AJ Reed. At this point, the score was 10-4. The Grizzlies would get 3 more in the 6th on an RBI double for Aplin, RBI groundout for Tucker, and RBI single from Moran. They would tie the game in the 7th with an RBI sinlge from Aplin, RBI single from Tucker and a run scoring on an error. The game went to extras but unfortunately the Grizzlies lost in 10.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (37-21) won 7-0 (BOX SCORE)

Another dominating performance for Corpus Christi. Martes got the start last night and probably had his best performance of the season. He went 6.2 shutout innings striking out 9. Corpus jumped on the board early with a run in the first thanks to an RBI double from Fisher. Corpus would add two more runs in the second on a Garcia 2 run HR, his first HR in AA. They would cap off their scoring with a 4 spot in the 4th. McDonald and Gregor hit back to back HRs and Bregman added a 2 run double. That was all that was needed for Martes and Peterson.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (32-27) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Rough loss for Lancaster but understandable. Shelby Miller made a rehab start and struck out 11 over 6 shutout innings. Thornton got the start for the Jethawks but gave up 5 runs over 4.1 innings. The only run Lancaster scored came on an RBI triple from Martin in the 7th inning. As a team Lancaster struck out 15 times. James pitched relief of Thornton and went 2.2 innings striking out 5. Del Rosario pitched a scoreless 8th with 2 strikeouts.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (25-34) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Quality pitching leads to win for the River Bandits. QC got on the board early with two runs in the first thanks to an RBI single from Duarte and a sac fly from McCall. They would add another run in the second on a Straw RBI single. Elieser Hernandez got the start for the River Bandits and went 5 innings allowing 1 run with 5 strikeouts. QC would get two more runs in the 7th from an RBI triple from Duarte and an RBI double from Ballard. Jose Hernandez pitched the final four innings and gave up just 1 run.
