Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 7th

All four teams in action and it was a clean sweep with Lancaster and Quad Cities winning on walk-offs!. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (25-32) won 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno gets back on track with a solid win. Hauschild got the start and pitched well allowing 1 run, unearned, over his five innings of work. Fresno got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Moran singled and Worth hit a 2 run HR. The Grizzlies would add another run in the 4th on a Moran RBI single. In the bottom of the 5th Reed lead off with a walk and Singleton followed with a 2 run HR, his 14th HR of the season. Fresno would end up getting two more runs on two sac flies from Tucker. Fields and Gustave both tossed two scoreless innings to seal the win.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (35-21) won 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus keeps on rolling. My May pitcher of the month for the Hooks, Keegan Yuhl, got the start for the Hooks and was fantastic. Yuhl went 5 shutout innings allowing just 3 hits and striking out 7. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th. In the 4th, Fisher singled, stole second, and scored on a Gregor RBI single. In the 5th Bregman came through with a 2 run single and later scored on a Fisher groundout to push the score to 4-0. Tanielu lead off the 6th inning with a solo HR, his 2nd HR in AA. The Hooks would get another run that inning with Ramsay doubling and scoring on an error. Smith pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Freeman closed the game pitching the last two innings giving up 1 run.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (32-26) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster has fought back and with another win, they now find themselves just 3.5 games back of first place. Armenteros has been very good this season and had another good start last night. He went 6.2 innings (season high), allowing just 1 run and striking out 9. Lancaster ended up going into the 8th inning down 2-0. In the bottom of the 8th, Muniz came through with a 2 run HR to tie the game, his 7th HR of the season. Deemes pitched a scoreless 9th to set up the Jethawks to win in a walk-of. With the bases loaded and two outs, my player of the month for May, Stubbs, stepped to the plate and deliver. Stubbs hit a line drive RBI single to center to win the game for Lancaster.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (24-33) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Quad Cities battles back from an early deficit in this one. Abreu got the start and struggled with his command. He went 3 innings allowing 3 runs with 5 BB/4 K. QC went into the bottom of the 3rd down 3-0. In that inning, Duarte came around to score on an RBI single from Wernes. In the 5th inning, Duarte hit a solo HR to left field, his 1st HR of the season. The River Bandits entered the 6th down 3-2 and came away with 2 run. Tucker hit an RBI double and scored on a McCall RBI single. Beloit pushed across a run in the 8th inning which added to the drama. In the bottom of the 9th, with two outs and Goedert on second, Wernes came through with another RBI single, this time a walk-off hit!
