Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 5th

All four teams in action last night with two winning and two losing. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (24-31) lost 10-6 (BOX SCORE)

Rough day for Fresno pitching as they give up 10 more runs. Valdez got the start and gave up all 10 runs in the first 4 innings of the game. Fresno attempted a comeback scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th. In that inning they had RBIs from Singleton, Duffy, and Tucker. The Grizzlies would score another two runs in the 5th thanks to a 2 run HR from Stassi. Unfortunately they wouldn’t be able to score again. On the bright side Jankowski and Guduan both threw two scoreless innings in relief.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (34-21) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus gets back on track after the one run loss last night. Holmes got the start and was great going 5 shutout innings with 1 BB/8 K. Corpus got on the board in the top of the 3rd with an RBI single from Fisher. The Hooks added two more runs in the 4th with a solo HR from Ramsay and an RBI single from Garcia. Sneed pitched in relief of Holmes and while he gave up 7 hits, he only allowed 1 earned runs in his 3 innings of work. McCurry tossed a perfect 9th to pick up his 12th save of the season.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (30-26) won 15-8 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster has now won 8 of their last 9 games and they continue their hot streak. Bower got the start and gave up 2 runs in the first inning. On the day he allowed 7 runs in 6.1 innings. Fortunately, it didn’t matter as Lancaster’s offense went off. Lancaster would respond with 1 run in the first on a Bobby Boyd solo HR, his 5th of the season. In the 2nd inning Lancaster would score four runs thanks to a 2 run HR from Martin and a 2 run single from Stubbs. They would go into the 5th up just 5-4 and drop another 4 spot on an RBI double from Stubbs, RBI single from Muniz, and another HR from Martin, his 2nd of the night and 10th on the season. Lancaster would play add on with another 2 run single from Stubbs and homers from Laureano and Muniz. Dorris pitched the last 2.2 innings and struck out 6.

  • Matt Bower, LHP: 6.1 IP, 12 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 BB, 1 K (WIN)
  • Jacob Dorris, RHP: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (23-33) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

One big inning dooms Quad Cities. The River Bandits got on the board early with 2 runs in the first inning thanks to a 2 run single from Correa. Goedert would add a solo HR in the 3rd to extend the lead to 3-0. Quad Cities took that lead into the 5th and that is when things fell apart. The combo of McCanna and Whitt gave up 5 runs in that inning. Quad Cities would battle back with an RBI single in the bottom of the 9th but that is all they would get as they fell 5-4.

Today’s starters according to MiLB.com:
