Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 1st

Three teams in action last night with Quad Cities playing a double header. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (22-28) POSTPONED

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (31-20) won 10-2 (BOX SCORE)

Hooks had a great month of May and they kick off June in style. Corpus got off to a quick start with 3 runs in the first but only 1 hit. Hernandez, Bregman, and Fisher all walked to start the game. Hernandez scored on a Gregor walk and then Gonzalez had a 2 run single. They added two more in the 3rd with an RBI double for McDonald and Tanielu sac fly. They continued to play add on in the 4th with a 2 run double from Davis and he ended up scoring on a wild pitch. They would add two more with a Hernandez RBI single and Hernandez scoring on another wild pitch. As a team they drew 13 walks. Yuhl got the start and was great allowing 2 earned runs over 6 innings. West tossed 3 scoreless innings to close the game on his birthday.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (26-26) won 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster is finally back to .500 on the season. They jumped out to a quick early lead with 4 runs in the first inning. In the first Sewald lead off with a double and scored on a Laureano single. Marlow would follow with a 2 run triple and would score on a groundout. Armenteros got the start and was great. He went 5 innings and allowed just 1 run with 6 strikeouts. Deetz pitched in relief and threw 2.2 scoreless innings. Lancaster would add a run in the 8th on a Martin RBI single and one more in the 9th on a Laureano sac-fly. Dorris closed the game with a scoreless 1.1 innings, his 4th straight scoreless outing.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (22-30) 

GAME 1 – lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Quad Cities got out to an early lead in this one with 2 runs in the first inning thanks to Tucker ground out and a Goedert sac fly. They would add a run in the 2nd on a Straw RBI single. Unfortunately starter Abreu got roughed up a bit. He allowed 5 runs in 2.2 innings with 5 BB/4 K. Person pitched in relief and did well throwing a scoreless 3.1 innings with 4 strikeouts. The River Bandits would add a run in the 7th but would fall 5-4.

GAME 2 – lost 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

Quad Cities lost the double header but did battle for the full game. Nelson got the start but gave up 6 runs, 3 earned over just 2.2 innings. Quad Cities entered the 4th down 6-0 but would start to battle. They scored one in the 4th on a McCall inside the park HR. Score one in the 6th on a sac fly from Tucker and 2 more runs in the 7th on a Ballard RBI double and Straw RBI triple. Whitt pitched the final 3.1 innings without giving up a run and striking out 5, but the offense fell just short.
