Houston Astros Minor League Recap: May 4th

All four teams in the Astros system in action and it was a clean sweep for the organization! See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (12-13) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

What a start from Brady Rodgers. Possibly the most dominant outing of any Astros MiLB pitcher this season as he shutout Reno on just 86 pitches. He walked zero and struck out nine. On the season he has 2 BB/23 K in 30 IP. Kemp got the scoring started with an RBI single in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the 4th, AJ Reed crushed a solo HR to right field, his 6th of the season. That was all Rodgers needed.

  • Brady Rodgers, RHP: 9.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K (86 pitches/70 strikes) (WIN)

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (12-13) won 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks slugged their way to a win last night with three homeruns. Martes got the start giving up 1 earned run over 3.2 IP but he did walk 4 batters. JD Davis gave the Hooks the lead in the top of the 5th with a 2 run HR, his first of the season. Davis finished the game with three hits and 3 RBI. Chase McDonald had a huge game with another HR. McDonald has 5 HR in his last 6 games. Teoscar hit his 2nd HR of the season, a solo shot in the 9th to give the Hooks the lead. Holmes picked up the win striking out 4 in 3 IP.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (10-14) won 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

Good pitching leads to the win for Lancaster with James going five shutout to start it. Lancaster scored in each of the first three innings jumping out to a 5-0 lead. In the first inning Bobby Boyd singled, stole second, stole third, and scored on an error. Muniz has a 2 run single in the second inning to give the Jethawks a 3-0 lead. Nick Tanielu homered in the top of the 3rd, his 3rd HR of the season. He is now hitting .330 with 16 RBI in 23 games. Laureano added three hits bringing his BA up to .282.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (11-15) won 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

QC had an early start and got the system started off right. Chris Murphy went five inning giving up just 2 earned runs. Bower pitched in relief striking out 4 in 2.1 IP, though he did walk 3. Thome closed it out with a scoreless 1.2 IP. The River Bandits pounded out 8 hits with Kyle Tucker having two of them, both doubles, to include 2 RBI. Brooks Marlow also had two hits raising his season average to .306. Goedert added an RBI, his 11th of the season in just 11 games.

CC: Cy Sneed (1.15 ERA)

LAN: Trent Thornton (3.50 ERA)

QC: Sebastian Kessay (9.64 ERA)
