Houston Astros Minor League Recap: May 25th

Two of the three teams won with Quad Cities getting rained out. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (20-25) won 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

Musgrove dominates again as Fresno wins easily. Joe Musgrove got the start and was great. He finished allowing just 1 run over 7 innings with 0 BB/7 K. The run one came in the 7th inning when Oklahoma City was able to manufacture one with small ball. He lowered his AAA ERA to 2.00 and now his season ERA is 1.02. Fresno was scoreless until the 5th inning. In the 5th they put up 6 runs with RBIs from Aplin, Worth, Reed, Tucker, and Heineman. Fresno would add two more with an Andrew Aplin 2 run HR in the 8th, his 2nd HR of the season. Jankowski finished the game with two scoreless innings and 4 strikeouts.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (28-17) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Nice win for Corpus as they got huge contributions from rehabbing Gomez. Yuhl got the start and was fantastic. He went 7 shutout innings allowing just 4 hits. Corpus got on the board early with a Fisher solo HR in the first, his 9th HR of the season. Gomez had three outfield assists and also added a solo HR in the 5th inning to extend the lead to 2-0. The biggest assist Gomez had came in the 8th inning. With 1 run already in, Arkansas had the bases loaded with only one out. Aguilera came up to bat and hit a flyball to center to Gomez. Gomez ended up catching the ball and making a throw home to throw out the potential tying run. McCurry got into a bit of trouble in the 9th but struck out two batters to seal it.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (20-24) lost 16-7 (BOX SCORE)

This game got out of hand early. Stockton dropped 9 runs in the first three innings, all off of Hernandez. Then in the 5th, Stockton added 7 more runs to increased their lead to 16-0. Lancaster wouldn’t go quiet though. Stubbs had an RBI double in the 6th to get the Jethawks on the board. In the 7th Lancaster would get 3 runs with a solo HR from Ferguson and a run scoring on a wild pitch and a groudout. In the 8th Ferguson added an RBI single and Martin had a 2 run double. It just wasn’t enough to overcome the large deficit.
