Houston Astros Minor League Recap: May 21st

Three teams in the Astros system walk away with a win but unfortunately the Hooks winning streak came to an end. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (17-24) won 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno picks up the win behind a dominant performance from Brady Rodgers. Rodgers went 6.2 innings allowing just 1 earned run while striking out 11. Fresno got on the board with back to back homers from Singleton and Kemmer in the 2nd inning. They would play add-on in the 5th with RBIs from Duffy, Kemmer, and Heineman. Fields and Chapman finished the game with scoreless innings. Singleton and Heineman both had two hits each and Fresno had a total of five batters with at least 1 RBI.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (25-16) lost 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

Hooks finally lose snapping their winning streak at 11 games. Paulino got the start and was great. He went 6 innings allowing just 2 earned runs and striking out 8. The 2 runs he allowed were in the first inning. Unfortunately the Hooks offense couldn’t get anything going. The only run they scored was on a JD Davis RBI single in the first inning. They managed 9 hits in the game with only one being extra bases. Heredia pitched the final two innings striking out 4.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (19-21) won 7-5 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster continues to inch closer to .500. Deetz got the start last night and allowed 2 earned runs over 4 innings with 5 strikeouts. This was a back and forth game with Lancaster coming out on top. Lancaster jumped out to an early lead with a first inning RBI double from Marlow. Marlow would drive in two more runs in the 3rd inning. In the 4th inning Jason Martin hit a solo HR, his 3rd HR of the season. Lancaster entered the 8th inning down a run. They were able to take the lead with sac fly from Martin and a bases loaded walk from Laureano. Armenteros was great in relief allowing just 1 run in 3.1 innings. Deemes closed the game with a scoreless 1.2 innings.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (18-23) won 10-4 (BOX SCORE)

Yesterday I mentioned inconsistent with the offense after picking up just two hits, well last night they got 14 hits. Hernandez got the start and wasn’t bad going 4.2 innings with 2 earned runs. QC went into the 6th inning down 2-0 and exploded for 6 runs. Mizell had an RBI single and Porter capped off the inning with a 3 run HR. They were done there putting up another 3 runs in the 8th thanks to RBIs from Michelena, Straw and Tucker. Winkelman went four innings in relief allowing just 1 earned run and striking out four.

Today’s starters according to MiLB.com:

FRE: Mike Hauschild (3.95 ERA)

CC: Brian Holmes (3.69 ERA)

LAN: Joshua James (3.16 ERA)

QC: Yoanys Quiala (5.63 ERA)
