On Friday night, the Woodpeckers picked up a win in Myrtle Beach, but the victory also came with a record-breaking moment for the Fayetteville organization.
In the fourth inning, Arturo Flores connected on a home run to right field to tie the game. The homer, his 16th of the season, set a new Fayetteville single-season record for home runs.

Flores, who signed with the Astros in September 2024, took a unique path to professional baseball. After finishing high school in 2023, he signed with a team in the Mexican independent league before joining the Astros organization in 2024.
“It feels good, but my main focus is to play for the team and to win every game with them and to be a great teammate,” Flores said about setting the Fayetteville record.
This season, the 20-year-old Flores was assigned to Fayetteville for his first full season and has put together a strong campaign. Following Friday night’s game, Flores was hitting .262 with 16 home runs and an .839 OPS.
It has been an impressive first full season for Flores, and he now has a place in the Woodpeckers’ record books. His combination of production and power at just 20 years old has made him another intriguing young player to follow in the Astros system.
