Houston Astros Minor League Recap: May 19th

All four teams in the Astros system in action and it was another sweep. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (16-23) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Good win for Fresno as they snap their four game losing streak. Joe Musgrove got the start and was great. Through five innings he allowed just three hits, no runs, and struck out six. He ran into trouble in the 6th when a Garcia reached on an infield single, that maybe could have been an error. Musgrove gave up a 2 run HR but finished the inning with a strikeout. Mayfield notched his first AAA RBI in the 2nd inning. In the 5th Worth added a 2 run HR. Heineman added a solo shot in the 9th to extend the lead to 4-2. Hoyt picked up his 9th save and now has 7 BB/35 K in 21.1 innings.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (24-15) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Another day, another win for Corpus Christi, their 10th win in a row. JD Davis got the scoring started with a solo HR in the top of the 4th inning. Yuhl got the start and gave up 2 ER in 6 innings. Corpus went into the 8th inning down 3-1 and that is where they came alive. Hernandez drew a lead-off walk and Alex Bregman hit a game tying 2 run HR, his 10th of the season. Two batters later Davis hit his 2nd HR, a 2 run shot. Corpus went into the 9th up 6-4 and that is when Davis homered again, another 2 run shot, giving him 7 homers on the season. McCurry got the save striking out four over 1.2 innings.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (18-20) won 11-4 (BOX SCORE)

Nice to see Lancaster get rolling. They jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a Ferguson lead off homerun. Inland Empire then put up five runs in the second inning, with only one of them being earned. Lancaster would battle their way back however. In the 3rd Ferguson had an RBI double. In the 4th Reynoso had an RBI single. In the 5th Ferguson scored on a wild pitch. Stubbs capped off this the scoring with a 3 run HR in the 6th, his 4th HR and he extended his hitting streak to 16 games. Peterson closed the game with 1.2 scoreless innings.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (17-22) won 9-4 (BOX SCORE)

Another good offensive night for the River Bandits. QC got the scoring started with a Kyle Tucker 2 run double in the first inning. They would add four more in the 2nd inning with RBIs from Mizell, Duarte, Tucker, and McCall. They would add one more in the 5th with an RBI groundout from Mizell scoring Wernes. Nelson made his season debut for QC and gave up 2 ER in 4.2 innings. Person closed the game with a scoreless 1.2 innings to seal the win.

FRE: Brad Peacock (4.62 ERA)
