Houston Astros Minor League Recap: April 30th

The last day in April and three of the four teams were in action in the Astros system. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (10-11) won 3-0 (BOX SCORE)

Good overall win for the Grizzlies. Good pitching, timely hitting are good keys to success. Starter Mike Hauschild went 7 shutout innings on just 66 pitches. Kemp, Marisnick, and Worth all had an RBI last night. The bullpen tandem of Gustave and Hoyt shut the door to seal the 3-0 win for Fresno. Gustave last eight appearances: 0.00 ERA, 9.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (9-12) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Really rough stretch for the Hooks. They have now lost 6 in a row and 9 of their last 10 games. The game got started off well with starter Edison Frias going 5 innings while allowing just one unearned run. Chase McDonald gave the Hooks a lead with a 2 run HR, his 5th of the season. Cy Sneed pitched in relief going three scoreless innings lowering his season ERA to 1.15. The Hooks went into the bottom of the 9th and McCurry took over. Unfortunately, McCurry gave up 3 runs and the Hooks lost 4-3.

  • Edison Frias, RHP: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
  • Cy Sneed, RHP: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (8-12) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Another low scoring game in the California League. This was a tough loss as Lancaster had a lead for most of the game. Dykxhoorn went 5.2 IP and left the game with a man on, who ended up scoring on a 2 run HR. Dykxhoorn allowed just the one earned run and has a 2.29 ERA on the season. Jason Martin had two hits and an RBI, while Reynoso added two doubles. Riley Ferrell had his first bad outing allow the 2 runs in just 1.1 IP.
