The MLB Draft is finally here. I said my last mock draft would be the final one, but I couldn’t resist putting together one more.
The MLB Draft is probably the toughest draft in sports to predict, especially after the first few picks. With that in mind, here’s one final look at a potential four-round mock draft for the Astros using the OverSlot mock draft simulator before the draft gets underway.
Round 1, #17) Ace Reese, 3B, Mississippi State
With the first pick of this mock, I have the Astros going with a college position player, infielder in Ace Reese. The lefty-hitting Reese has some big time power and been a consistent performer for Mississippi State hitting .336 with 24 home runs this season. Reese has some question marks defensively as to where he will play, but the bat is legit and he would be one of the top hitters in the system. His projections range from around 15-30 so he could be a slightly underslot guy.
Projected Bonus: $3,700,000 (Slot: $4,868,000)
Another Option: Justin Lebron, SS, Alabama
Round 1, #28) Liam Peterson, RHP, Florida
With the Astros second pick, a pick thanks to Hunter Brown finishing top 3 in the AL Cy Young voting, I have the Astros going with a pitcher this time in right-hander Liam Peterson. Peterson is ranked a little higher but slid and the Astros get a great arm at 28. While Peterson had a 4.59 ERA this season, he also struck out 111 over 84.1 innings. He’s got a great frame the ability to run his fastball up to 98-99 mph, something the Astros need.
Projected Bonus: $3,700,000 (Slot: $3,363,300)
Round 2, #57) Jarren Advincula, 2B, Georgia Tech
For the Astros second round pick, I have them going back to another college bat. This one is a little different than their normal targets but Advincula could be a fast mover. The left-handed hitter has elite bat control and hit .434 with 10 home runs and 30 walks to just 16 strikeouts over 61 games in 2026. He also hit .380 in 56 Cape Cod League games. He doesn’t have a ton of power, but gets hits, gets on base and has some good speed.
Projected Bonus: $1,300,000 (Slot: $1,677,400)
Round 3, #93) Jaxon Willits, INF, Oklahoma
With their third pick, I have the Astros going with infielder Jaxon Willits. Willits is probably one of the more high floor players in the draft. While he doesn’t have a standout tool, he does pretty much everything well. This year he hit .313 with 20 doubles and 7 home runs for the Sooners. He’s also performed well in the Cape Cod hitting .318 over 38 games. He was also a standout in the CWS helping Oklahoma to the title.
Projected Bonus: $658,000 (Slot: $846,900)
Round 4, #121) Andruw Giles, OF, Basic (NV)
The Astros get their first prep player here in Giles. Giles is a left-handed hitting outfielder who has solid tools across the board with above average hit, run and arm in the outfield. Scouts think he can stick in center field and could be an impact bat with raw power and the ability to hit the ball to all fields.
Projected Bonus: $2,000,000 (Slot: $638,800)
Round 4, #133) Beau Peterson, 3B, Mill Valley (KS)
With the compensation pick for Framber Valdez signing with Detroit, the Astros select another prep bat in Beau Peterson. I would love this pick. Peterson has a big time bat with potential for 25 home runs, while maintaining a strong approach at the plate. He has a huge arm over at third base and has enough athleticism he could be a good corner outfielder too.
Projected Bonus: $1,200,000 (Slot: $569,600)
