On Wednesday, the Astros made a trade, sending longtime pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. and Colton Gordon, along with cash, for outfield prospect Jadyn Fielder.
While the primary purpose of the move was to clear salary, the Astros also picked up an intriguing prospect in the deal. If the last name sounds familiar, it’s because it is. Jadyn is the son of Prince Fielder and the grandson of Cecil Fielder.
After going undrafted in 2024, Fielder bypassed his commitment to North Florida and signed with the Brewers as an undrafted free agent. He made his professional debut in rookie ball in 2025, hitting .268 with three home runs and an .870 OPS.
This season, Fielder has spent time at Single-A, where he’s posted 11 doubles, three home runs and an .813 OPS through 45 games. While his father was known for his elite power, Jadyn brings a little more speed to the table, swiping 18 stolen bases over his first 93 professional games. Defensively, he’s seen time in left field while also making appearances as the designated hitter.
The left-handed hitting outfielder is currently 21 years old and will turn 22 in August. He may not carry the label of a top prospect, but he’s more than just a throw-in to complete the deal. The Astros have assigned him to Fayetteville, where he is expected to make his debut with the Woodpeckers this weekend.
