Another busy week down on the farm as the season continues to roll on. Here’s a look at some of the biggest developments across the system with this week’s Pipeline Report.
System Spotlight
Kevin Alvarez – OF – Fayetteville
The Astros signed Alvarez in January 2025 for $2 million, one of the largest international bonuses in franchise history. Widely viewed as one of the premier pure hitters in the 2025 international signing class, Alvarez entered professional baseball with a polished offensive profile. The left-handed hitter combines an advanced approach at the plate with strong bat-to-ball skills and projects to develop above-average power as he matures.
Despite being just 18 years old, Alvarez was assigned to Fayetteville to begin the 2026 season and has more than held his own against older competition. After putting together a solid April, he took another step forward in May, batting .300 with seven doubles, four home runs, 14 RBIs, and a 9-to-13 walk-to-strikeout ratio. Perhaps most impressively, Alvarez has not recorded a strikeout over his last seven games.
Already considered one of the top prospects in the Astros system, Alvarez is beginning to back up the hype with his performance on the field. His advanced hit tool and ability to make consistent contact at such a young age continue to stand out as he establishes himself as one of the organization’s most exciting young talents.
Keep An Eye On
Adrian Ardines – RHP – FCL Astros
Ardines signed with the Astros during the January 2024 international signing period and spent his first two professional seasons in the Dominican Summer League before making the jump stateside in 2026. The young right-hander has impressed early, posting a 3.47 ERA with just four walks and 28 strikeouts across 23.1 innings. His most recent outing was his strongest yet, as he tossed five innings while striking out seven batters and reaching 95.8 mph with his fastball.
Still just 19 years old, Ardines is putting himself on the radar as one of the more intriguing young arms in the organization. If he continues to perform at this level, a promotion to Fayetteville later this season could be in the cards, further solidifying his status as a promising international pitching prospect in the Astros system.
Under-the-Radar Performer
Trevor Austin – INF – Corpus Christi
One Transaction This Week
Nehomar Ochoa – 1B – Asheville
Ochoa was drafted by the Astros in the 11th round of the Galena Park High School in Houston, and signed for $300,000 double the slot for the 11th round. Ochoa had a solid first professional season in 2024 but struggled to get it going in 2025 after he suffered a freak accident early in the spring.
This year things have been different. Ochoa got off to a nice start hitting .270 with 5 home runs, 18 stolen bases and a .792 OPS over 36 games for the Woodpeckers. He earned a promotion to High-A Asheville and through his first three games, he already connected on 2 home runs. Ochoa has some big time pop and is still just 20 years old.

Who Could Be Next?
At this point, the most logical help could come in the form of an arm, and most likely a bullpen arm. This points to one player, right-hander Miguel Ullola. Ullola was once one of the top pitching prospects in the system (in very recent memory) but he made a change to the bullpen over the last couple of weeks. The early returns have been solid and if he keeps it up, he could get a chance in Houston’s bullpen soon.
Quick Hits
- The Woodpeckers (Single-A) continue to lead the Astros system in stolen bases with 159.
- FCL Astros are playing well at 16-5.
- Justin Thomas leads the system in HBP with 12, and has a .968 OPS.
- 19-year-old Jagger Beck has 42 K over 30.1 innings.
