Hitter – Drew Brutcher
Brutcher signed with the Astros as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 MLB Draft after spending four seasons at the University of South Florida. He had a solid 2025 season making it up to High-A and hitting .266 over 101 games. He started the year in High-A this year and hit .266 earning a promotion to Double-A where he has been on a tear. In 14 games for the Hooks, Brutcher is hitting .358 with 6 doubles, 3 home runs and 23 runs batted in. Brutcher doesn’t strike out a ton and has some solid power which is now coming out in games.
2026 Stats: 47 G, .294 BA/.391 OBP/.475 SLG, 12 2B, 3B, 6 HR, 43 RBI, 6 SB
Hitter – Caden Powell
Powell was selected by the Astros in the sixth round of the 2024 draft and signed for an overslot bonus after a dominant JuCo season in which he hit over .500 with 32 home runs. The tools have always pointed to significant upside, and he flashed that potential last year with Fayetteville before an injury to his hamate bone. He started the year slow, but the power has come back with a vengeance as he’s hit 8 home runs since May 5th. During that time he is hitting .366 with 8 home runs, 25 runs batted in and 7 stolen bases over 27 games.
2026 Stats: 47 G, .306 BA/.385 OBP/.470 SLG, 6 2B, 8 HR, 30 RBI, 11 SB
Pitcher – Kellan Oakes
Oakes was selected by the Astros in the ninth round of the 2025 MLB Draft and has gotten off to an impressive start to his professional career. Overall this year he has a 4.34 ERA but over his last seven outings, Oakes has dominated opposing hitters, posting a 2.97 ERA while recording 37 strikeouts against just seven walks across 30.1 innings. A reliever throughout his college career, Oakes has received one start and some long relief outings. He was recently promoted to Asheville.
2026 Stats: 10 G, 4.34 ERA, 37.1 IP, 33 H, 18 ER, 11 BB, 45 K, 10.8 K/9
Pitcher – Nick Potter
Potter was drafted by the Astros in the 5th round of the 2025 draft after two years at JuCo and one year at Wichita State. Despite being a reliever in college, the Astros have converted him to a starter. The right-hander has a big time fastball that sits 95-96 MPH and can touch 100. He’s looked strong as a starter so far posting a 2.18 ERA through 10 starts while racking up 38 strikeouts over 33 innings. He has allowed just 18 hits this season. Potter’s arsenal is sure to change with the Astros from where it was in college.
