One of the Astros’ top prospects, Walker Janek, was placed on the 7-day injured list this week with a hamstring injury.
The Astros’ 2024 first-round pick last appeared in a game on May 1, exiting early after appearing to get hurt while scoring on a base hit in the second inning.
A Texas native from Portland, Janek played his college ball at Sam Houston State before entering pro ball.
It’s been a slow start to the 2026 season for Janek, who is hitting just .135 with four walks to 28 strikeouts and only four extra-base hits through 19 games for Double-A Corpus Christi. While his defense remains his calling card, he’s also struggled controlling the running game, throwing out just 6 of 38 base stealers (16%), a noticeable drop from last year’s 31% mark.
Injuries are never ideal, but this stint could give Janek a chance to reset and come back stronger once he’s healthy.
