Astros Minor League Recap: August 8th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (53-56) lost 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

France got a rehab start for Sugar Land and allowed 2 runs over 3.2 innings. The offense got on the board with 2 runs in the 2nd inning on a Davidson solo HR and Hurtubise RBI groundout. They got 2 more runs in the 5th on a Singleton groundout and Short RBI single. Ullola allowed 3 runs over 4 innings in relief and the offense was quiet the rest of the way as Sugar Land fell 6-4.

Note: Whitcomb has a .921 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (37-68) lost 9-6 (BOX SCORE)

Nezuh started for the Hooks and allowed 3 runs over 1.2 innings. The offense got on the board in the 5th scoring 3 runs on a Ferreras RBI single, Sullivan RBI groundout and Sacco RBI double. They got another in the 5th on a Guillemette sac fly. The pen struggled allowing another 6 runs as the Drillers extended their lead. The offense got 2 runs in the 9th on a Martinez 2 run single but that was it as the Hooks fell 9-6.

Note: Martinez is hitting .301 in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (43-61) lost 9-0 (BOX SCORE)

Taylor got the start and went 4.2 innings allowing 3 runs. He was relieved by Cruz who allowed 6 runs over 3.2 innings. The offense collected nine hits and drew three walks but were unable to score as they fell 9-0.

Note: Gomez has 15 doubles this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (54-49) won 10-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on an error and another run on a wild pitch. They got 3 more runs in the 2nd inning on a Frey 2 run single and Monistere RBI single. Smith got the start and pitched well allowing 2 runs over 5 innings with 4 strikeouts. The offense added some insurance runs in the 9th scoring 4 runs on a Monistere walk, wild pitch, Daudet sac fly and a passed ball. Carrera closed it out allowing 2 runs over 4 innings with 7 strikeouts in his Single-A debut.

Note: Smith has a 3.38 ERA this season.
