Astros Minor League Recap: August 5th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (53-53) lost 10-9 (BOX SCORE)

Javier got the start for Sugar Land allowing 1 run over 3.2 innings while striking out 6. The offense got on the board in the second inning on a Castro RBI double. In the 5th, Matthews added an RBI double. The offense picked up 3 runs in the 6th inning on a Castro 3 run HR. Fleury pitched in relief but struggled allowing 5 runs. The Sugar Land offense continued to add on though getting 2 runs in the 7th on a Whitcomb RBI double and Davidson RBI single. They got 2 more runs in the 8th on a Whitcomb 2 run double. The pen struggled late though allowing 3 runs in the 9th and then one in the 10th as Sugar Land fell 10-9.

Note: Castro has a .842 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (36-66) won 7-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 3 runs on an Austin 2 run single and Williams RBI double. They got another run in the 3rd on a Clarke solo HR. Swanson got the start for the Hooks and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5.1 innings. In the 6th, Spence connected on a 3 run HR, his first Double-A homer. The pen allowed a few runs but was ultimately able to hold on for the save as the Hooks won 7-5.

Note: Spence has a .784 OPS this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (43-58) lost 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Santos got the start for Asheville but struggled allowing 5 runs over 4 innings of work. The Asheville offense got on the board in the first inning on a passed ball. In the 4th the offense picked up 2 runs on a Vogel solo HR and a run on an error. The pen was solid but the offense struggled to score again as Asheville fell 6-3.

Note: Lytle picked up 3 hits in his professional debut.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (53-47) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers offense got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 3 runs on RBI singles from Daudet, Call and Frey. They got another run in the 3rd on another Daudet RBI single. Howard got the start and allowed 2 runs over 4 innings while striking out 4. The offense added another run in the 8th on a wild pitch.

Note: Howard has a 3.45 ERA in Single-A.
