Astros Minor League Recap: August 26th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (61-63) won 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first innings on a Singleton RBI groundout. Garcia started for the Space Cowboys and pitched well allowing 1 run over 6 innings with 5 strikeouts. France relieved Garcia and allowed 3 runs in the 8th as the Isotopes took the lead. The offense responded with 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th on a Cole RBI single, Price RBI single, run on wild pitch, Short RBI single and Barber RBI single. Hernandez tossed a scoreless 9th inning to close out the 6-4 win.

Note: Leon is hitting .346 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (42-78) lost 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the 4th inning on a Martinez solo HR. Nezuh got the start and was great tossing 6 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Mancini relieved Nezuh and allowed a run in the 7th as the Drillers tied it. The game would go to extra innings and in the 10th, the Drillers walked it off with a 2 run HR as the Hooks fell 3-1.

Note: Nezuh has 67 K in 64.2 innings this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (49-68) lost 10-4 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 4th inning on a Janek 2 run HR. They got another run in the 5th on a Holy solo HR. Howard got the start and went 6 innings allowing 3 runs. Holy added an RBI single in the 7th to give Asheville the lead. The Spartanburgers blew it open late though scoring 6 runs off McPherson in the 8th inning. Asheville’s offense was unable to respond as the Tourists fell 10-4.

Note: Janek has a .777 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (65-56) won 1-0 (BOX SCORE)

Smith got the start for the Woodpeckers and was great tossing 5.2 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 5th inning on a Flores solo HR. Carrera came on in relief of Smith and closed it out tossing 3.2 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts as the Woodpeckers won 1-0.

Note: Smith has a 2.79 ERA in Single-A.
