Astros Minor League Recap: August 20th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (58-61) lost 5-0 (BOX SCORE)

Ullola started for Sugar Land and pitched well tossing 6 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. The bullpen struggled allowing 5 runs in the 8th as the Cubs took the lead. The Sugar Land offense was quiet all game as they were shutout in the 5-0 loss.

Note: Ullola has a 3.83 ERA this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (39-76) lost 10-5 (BOX SCORE)

Nezuh got the start for the Hooks and allowed 3 runs over 4 innings of work. The Hooks got on the board in the 4th on a Ferreras RBI single. Mancini came on in relief but struggled allowing 6 runs over 3.2 innings. The offense got one back in the 7th on a Baez solo HR. In the 9th, the Hooks picked up 3 runs on a Saco solo HR, Bush walk and Ferreras single but that was it as the Hooks fell 10-5.

Note: Spence has a 1.007 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (48-65) SUSPENDED

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (62-54)

Game 1 – won 11-2 (BOX SCORE)

Smith started for the Woodpeckers and pitched really well allowing 2 runs over 6 innings while striking out 9. The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 4th on a Schiavone RBI single and a run on an error. In the 5th they picked up another run on an error. The offense would end up scoring 7 runs in the 6th on a Forrester RBI single, Frey walk, Powell walk, Call sac fly, Walker sac fly and then walks to Schiavone and Hernandez. R. Smith closed it out with a scoreless 7th as the Woodpeckers won game one.

Note: Smith has a 3.13 ERA this season.

Game 2 – lost 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning on a Daudet sac fly. Carrera got the start and went 5 innings allowing 3 runs, all in the 2nd inning. The Woodpeckers got a run in the 3rd on a Monistere groundout and a Trujillo RBI single in the 4th to tie it. In the 6th, the Woodpeckers took the lead on a Ramirez RBI double. The Nationals would tie it in the 7th. The teams exchanged runs in the 8th and 9th to keep it tied. In the 10th, the Woodpeckers picked up a run but the Nationals walked it off scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the inning.

Note: Powell has 25 SB this season.
