Astros Minor League Recap: August 19th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (58-60) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Pecko started for Sugar Land and was solid tossing 4 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 4th scoring 2 runs on a Leon 2 run HR. They got 2 more runs in the 5th on an error. The Cubs got 2 runs in the 5th off of Knorr to get on the board. The bullpen pitched well, ultimately allowing just one more runs as Sugar Land won 4-3.

Note: Matthews has a .868 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (39-75) lost 7-4 (BOX SCORE)

Garcia got the rehab start for the Hooks but struggled a bit allowing 6 runs, 5 earned, over 4.1 innings. The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Clarke solo HR. They picked up another run in the 3rd on an Austin RBI groundout. In the 6th, the offense got two runs back on a Ferreras RBI single and a run scoring on a wild pitch. Tredwell was dominant in relief striking out 10 over 4 innings but the offense was unable to rally as the Hooks fell 7-4.

Note: Tredwell has a 2.45 ERA in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (48-65) lost 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

McPherson started for Asheville and tossed 4 scoreless innings. After a scoreless inning from Wohlgemuth, Rodriguez came in and allowed 2 runs over 4 innings. The offense got on the board in the 8th inning on a Janek RBI single. The offense went down in order in the 9th as Asheville fell 3-1.

Note: McPherson has a 2.92 ERA in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (61-53) lost 15-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Powell 2 run double. Rodriguez got the start but things unraveled in the third as he allowed 7 runs, and then Mercedes allowed 2 more as the Nationals took a big lead. The Woodpeckers got 2 back in the 5th on a Frey double and Powell groundout. Rosario struggled in relief allowing 6 runs over 2 innings as the Nationals extended their lead.

Note: Powell has 13 doubles this season.
