Astros Minor League Recap: August 15th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (55-60) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

McCullers got the rehab start for Sugar Land and went 5 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 4. The offense got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Singleton 2 run HR. They got 2 more runs in the 4th on a Matthews 2 run triple. In the 6th, Diaz added a 2 run HR. Blubaugh came on in relief and allowed 1 run over 4 innings with 4 strikeouts as Sugar Land won 6-2.

Note: Matthews has a .871 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (38-73) lost 12-6 (BOX SCORE)

Urias got the start and allowed 4 runs while retiring just one batter. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Williams sac fly. They got another run in the 4th on a Ferreras RBI groundout. Dombroski pitched in relief but struggled allowing 6 runs over 3 innings. In the 5th inning the Hooks scored twice on back to back homers from Garcia and Spence. Williams added a solo HR in the 6th inning. Cole connected on a solo HR in the 9th but that was it as the Hooks fell 12-6.

Note: Cole has a .837 OPS this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (46-64) lost 11-6 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Villarroel RBI single. They got another run in the 2nd inning on a Salas sac fly. True got the start but struggled allowing 7 runs over 4 innings. The Asheville offense got a run in the 3rd on a Gomez RBI single and one in the 4th on a Janek RBI single. Brutcher added a run in the 5th on an RBI single. Pena struggled in relief allowing 4 runs over 3 innings as the Dash extended their lead. Janek would add an RBI double in the 8th but that was it as Asheville fell 11-6.

Note: Janek has a .790 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (60-51) won 20-3 (BOX SCORE)

DeVos started for the Woodpeckers in his first outing since 2023. He went 3 innings allowing 1 run with 5 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Walker RBI double and a run scoring on a double play. The offense got 3 runs in the 4th on a fielder’s choice, Daudet sac fly and Schiavone RBI double. They added 7 runs in the 5th on a Call hit by pitch, Daudet 2 run single, run on a wild pitch, Hernandez RBI single, Frey RBI single and another run on a wild pitch. Perez pitched in relief for the Woodpeckers and allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, over 5 innings. The offense got 3 more runs in the 6th inning on a wild pitch, Hernandez walk and a run on a balk. In the 7th, the offense got 5 more runs on a Daudet hit by pitch, Schiavone walk, Hernandez RBI single, Huezo RBI single and Frey sac fly.

Note: Frey is hitting .297 this season.
