Astros Minor League Recap: August 14th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (54-60) lost 7-3 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning on a Singleton RBI single. France got the rehab start and allowed 3 runs, all in the 4th, over 4 innings. He was relieved by Ullola who struggled allowing 4 runs while retiring just 2 batters. The offense got 2 runs back in the 7th on a Davidson 2 run HR but that was it as Sugar Land fell 7-3.

Note: Matthews is hitting .277 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (38-72) won 9-8 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the 4th inning scoring 2 runs on a Baez 2 run double. Nezuh got the start and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings while striking out 3. The Hooks got 4 more runs in the 7th on RBI doubles from Guillemette and Bush and RBI singles from Williams and Baez. In the 8th, Williams added 3 runs on a 3 run double. The Sod Poodles made it interesting scoring 7 runs in the 8th inning but the Hooks were able to hold on for the win.

Note: Bush has a 1.005 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (46-63) won 10-1 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Lytle RBI single. They got a run in the 3rd on a wild pitch and another run in the 4th on a Vogel sac fly. Taylor got the start and pitched well tossing 5 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. The offense blew it open with 4 runs in the 6th inning on an error, a Nunez RBI single, Holy walk and Lytle sac fly. The offense got two more in the 8th on a Janek RBI single and Villarroel sac fly. Asheville picked up one more run in the 9th on an Encarnacion RBI double. Cruz closed it out allowing 1 run over the final 4 innings as Asheville won 10-1.

Note: Taylor has a 3.42 ERA in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (59-51) won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning on a Frey RBI groundout. They got another run in the 3rd on a Frey RBI double. Smith got the start and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5.1 innings while striking out 3. The offense picked up another run in the 5th on another Frey RBI double.

Note: Frey is hitting .294 this season.
