Astros Minor League Recap: May 4th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (16-17) lost 13-0 (BOX SCORE)

Brown started for Sugar Land and lasted just 2 innings as he allowed 4 runs. Weiman struggled in relief allowing 5 runs and Tamarez allowed another 3 runs late. The offense had a quiet day picking up just 2 hits, both singles, as they were shutout in the series finale.

Note: Whitcomb has a .851 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (9-18) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Santos started for the Hooks and pitched well tossing 3 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts. The Hooks got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Ferreras RBI single. Mancini relieved Santos but struggled a bit allowing 3 runs over 4.2 innings. In the 5th, the offense rallied for 3 runs on a Gonzalez RBI double and Castro 2 run single. The Hooks took a 4-3 lead to the 9th but Knorr allowed 2 runs as the Missions won 5-4.

Note: Santos has a 3.24 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (12-15) lost 16-0 (BOX SCORE)

Guedez started for Asheville and went 3 innings allowing 5 runs, 3 earned. Gillis pitched in relief but struggled allowing 8 runs, though just 1 earned, over 1.2 innings. The drive picked up another 3 runs off of Rodriguez. The Asheville offense struggled collecting just 4 hits as they fell 16-0.

Note: Jaworsky has 7 stolen bases this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (14-13) lost 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning on a Powell 2 run homer. Ogando got the start but struggled allowing 5 runs over 3.1 innings. The offense got two back in the 6th on a Trimble RBI single and a run on a wild pitch. Palmer allowed 2 runs over 4 innings and Smith allowed a run in the 8th as the Shorebirds extended the lead. The offense was unable to complete the comeback as the Woodpeckers fell 8-4.

Note: Powell has a .857 OPS this season.
