Astros Minor League Recap: May 28th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (31-21) won 9-6 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning on a Whitcomb solo HR. They got another run in the 4th on a Price solo HR. Whitcomb added another HR in the 5th, this time a 2 run HR. Ullola started for Sugar Land and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings with 5 strikeouts. Price added a sac fly in the 8th and in the 9th inning, Sugar Land got some insurance on another Whitcomb HR and a Matthews 2 run HR. The pen closed it out as Sugar Land won 9-2.

Note: Whitcomb leads minor league baseball with 16 HRs.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (16-30) lost 9-5 (BOX SCORE)

Santos started for the Hooks and went 4.1 innings allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, while striking out 7. The Hooks got on the board in the 4th on an Encarnacion 2 run HR. They got 2 more in the 5th on a Cerny 2 run double. Rodning struggled in relief allowing 6 runs as the Rockhounds took the lead. The offense got one back in the 9th but that was it as the Hooks fell 9-5.

Note: Guilfoil has a 3.96 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (20-27) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 3rd scoring 4 runs on a Janek RBI single, Spence 2 run single and Gonzalez RBI single. Guedez started for Asheville and pitched well allowing 2 runs over 5.1 innings while striking out 6. The offense got another run in the 6th on a Whitaker RBI single and one more in the 8th on a Bush solo HR. The pen tossed 3.2 scoreless innings as they closed out the 6-2 win.

Note: Janek is hitting .284 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (24-23) won 7-4 (BOX SCORE)

Pinto started for the Woodpeckers and went 3 innings allowing 3 runs. The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs on run scoring on a steal and a Schiavone solo HR. They got another run in the 4th on a Trimble RBI double. In the 6th, Trimble connected on a 3 run inside the park HR to give the Woodpeckers the lead. They got another run in the 8th on a Hernandez RBI single. Gonzalez closed it out allowing 1 run over the final 4 innings as the Woodpeckers won 7-4.

Note: Brutcher is hitting .356 this season.
