Astros Minor League Recap: May 25th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (30-20) won 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Corona 2 run HR. Walter started for the Space Cowboys and pitched really well tossing 6 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. Sugar Land got another run in the 7th on a Matthews RBI single. Tamarez allowed a run in relief but the rest of the pen shut it down as Sugar Land won 3-1.

Note: Walter has a 1.94 ERA in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (16-28) won 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Urias got the start for the Hooks and pitched well striking out 7 over 5 innings allowing just 1 run. After the Sod Poodles scored 3 runs in the 7th inning, the Hooks would rally back with 4 runs in the 8th on a Diaz RBI single, Deming RBI triple, Jordan RBI double and Encarnacion RBI single to tie it. The Sod Poodles got a run in the 9th to take the lead but the Hooks responded with a Diaz solo HR in the bottom of the 9th to tie it again. In the 10th, the Hooks walked it off on an error as they won 6-5.

Note: Urias has a 3.57 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (19-26) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

Mayer got the start for Asheville and went 3 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned. The pen allowed a few runs as the Tourists were down 6-0. The offense got on the board in the 7th inning on a Gonzalez sac fly and Whitaker RBI double. In the 8th, the offense scored 4 runs to tie it on a Gonzalez RBI single and Bush 3 run HR. The Grasshoppers picked up a run in the 9th though as Asheville fell 7-6.

Note: Gomez is hitting .404 over his last 13 games.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (23-22) lost 8-0 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez started for the Woodpeckers and pitched well tossing 5 scoreless innings. Smith and Mercedes struggled in relief allowing 8 runs each as the Woodpeckers found themselves down big. The offense struggled on the day collecting just 2 hits as they were shutout 8-0.

Note: Brutcher is hitting .343 this season.
