Astros Minor League Recap: May 24th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (29-20) lost 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

Blubaugh started for Sugar Land but struggled allowing 4 runs, 2 earned, over 4 innings of work. He was relieved by Gaither who allowed 2 runs. The offense got on the board on a Castro solo HR in 8th but that was it from the offense as Sugar Land lost 6-1.

Note: Hernandez has a 1.33 ERA this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (15-28) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Dombroski started for the Hooks and pitched really well striking out 6 over 5.2 scoreless innings. The offense got a run in the 2nd inning on a Jordan RBI single and another run in the 3rd on a Lavastida RBI single. The Sod Poodles tied things up in the 7th but in the bottom of the inning, Encarnacion broke the tie with a solo HR. Rodning and Sanchez closed it out with scoreless outings as the Hooks won 3-2.

Note: Dombroski has a 3.27 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (19-25) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Brito started for Asheville and pitched well allowing 1 run over 6 innings while striking out 5. The offense got on the board in the first inning on a Vogel sac fly. Bello relieved Brito and allowed 1 run over 3 innings. The Asheville offense was unable to score again as they fell 2-1.

Note: Spence is hitting .339 in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (23-21) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez started for the Woodpeckers and went 4.2 innings allowing 2 runs. The Woodpeckers’ offense got on the board in the 3rd on a Hernandez RBI double. They tied it up in the 7th on a Brutcher RBI double. In the 8th, the offense rallied for 4 runs on a Valencia RBI single, Holy 2 run single and another run scoring on an error. Cruz closed it out tossing 4.1 no-hit innings as the Woodpeckers won 6-2.

Note: Brutcher is hitting .422 over his last 24 games.
