Astros Minor League Recap: May 22nd

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (28-19) lost 16-3 (BOX SCORE)

Kouba started for Sugar Land and went 3 innings allowing 4 runs. Tamarez and Weiman were the next two in and they allowed 9 runs over 2 innings. The offense got on the board in the 7th scoring 3 runs on a Melton RBI double and Guillorme 2 run single. The Aviators would add three more runs late as Sugar Land fell 16-3.

Note: Melton has a .953 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (14-27) lost 10-3 (BOX SCORE)

Santos started for Corpus Christi but struggled walking 4 and allowing 3 runs while retiring just 2 batters. He was relieved by Bido who allowed 2 runs over 3.1 innings. The Hooks got on the board in the third on a Barber sac fly. They got 2 more in the 4th on a Diaz solo HR and Jordan sac fly. The pen allowed five more runs as the Sod Poodles extended their lead and the Hooks fell 10-3.


A+: Asheville Tourists (19-23) lost 8-6 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Jaworsky solo HR. They got another run in the 4th on a Gomez RBI single. Guedez got the start and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5.1 innings. The offense got 4 more runs in the 6th on a Gomez 2 run double, a run scoring on an error and a Vogel groundout. The pen struggled though allowing 7 runs as the Grasshoppers took the lead. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as they fell 8-6.

Note: Janek is hitting .405 over his last nine games.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (21-21) lost 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first scoring 2 runs on a Powell RBI single and Hernandez RBI double. Tredwell got the start and went 4.1 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 6. Gonzalez went 4.2 innings in relief allowing 3 runs. The Fayetteville offense was unable to score again after the first as they fell 5-2.

Note: Tredwell has a 3.56 ERA this season.
