Astros Minor League Recap: May 21st

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (28-18) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs on a Hamilton RBI double and Whitcomb bases loaded walk. Ullola got the start and tossed 4 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. The Aviators tied it up in the 6th but in the bottom of the inning Sugar Land retook the lead on a Sacco RBI single. They added 2 more runs on a Bastidas RBI single and Guillorme RBI double. The pen closed it out as Sugar Land won 5-2.

Note: Contreras has a 0.93 ERA this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (14-26) won 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Nezuh started for the Hooks and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 6. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Lavastida 2 run double. In the 5th, Diaz connected on a solo HR. The Hooks added 2 more runs in the 7th on a Barber solo HR and Diaz RBI single. The pen allowed a few runs as the Sod Poodles tied it up. In the 10th, the Hooks walked it off on a Willits walk-0ff RBI single.

Note: Knorr has a 3.32 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (19-22) lost 11-8 (BOX SCORE)

Taylor got the start for Asheville but struggled a bit allowing 2 runs while lasting just 1.1 innings. He was relieved by Santos who allowed 4 runs over 5 innings. The offense got on the board in the 3rd scoring 6 runs on a Vogel groundout, Spence walk, Whitaker walk, Sullivan walk and Janek 2 run single. In the 4th, Spence added 2 more on a 2 run double. The pen struggled down the stretch allowing 6 runs over the final 3 innings as Asheville fell 11-8.

Note: Janek is hitting .292 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (21-20) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

David started for the Woodpeckers and went 4 innings allowing 1 run. The offense got on the board in the 4th inning on a Valencia 2 run HR. In the 6th, Hernandez connected on a 3 run HR, his 5th HR of the season. Frias closed it out tossing 3 scoreless innings in relief as the Woodpeckers won 5-2.

Note: Brutcher is hitting .325 this season.
