This will be your weekly hot list of prospects who are performing well at the plate and on the mound. Here is last week’s hotlist. Below is the new hotlist for Week Three.
Who’s Hot At The Plate?
Shay Whitcomb – Whitcomb got off to a little bit of a slow start this season, but has turned it around the last couple of weeks. This week, the 26-year-old hit .412 with 6 doubles, a homer and 3 runs batted in over 5 games. He now has 8 doubles, 4 home runs, and 10 runs batted in over his last 11 games.
Jancel Villarroel – Villarroel put together some solid numbers in 2024 but is off to a really nice start this year. This last week, Villarroel hit .348 with 2 doubles, a triple, a home run and 4 runs batted in. He also collected 4 stolen bases giving him 9 on the season to go along with his .315 BA and .402 OBP.
Alejandro Nunez – Nunez flew under the radar a bit last year but has came out swinging a hot bat in 2025. The 20-year-old hit .400 with a home run, 3 runs batted in and a stolen base in 4 games. Overall this season, he is hitting .308 with 3 home runs and 9 runs batted in, which leads the team for 2025.
Drew Brutcher – Brutcher was signed as an undrafted free agent but has put up some nice numbers this year. Over the last week, the 23-year-old hit .438 with a double, triple and five runs batted in. Overall he is hitting .273 in 15 games for the Woodpeckers this season.
Who’s Hot On The Mound?
Colton Gordon – Gordon has put up good numbers in Triple-A for two years now and had another great start this week. The left-hander tossed 7 scoreless innings with 8 strikeouts in his one start for Sugar Land. He should be on the short list for potential call-up for the 2025 season.
Bryce Mayer – Mayer has been the definition of dominant this season. The 2024 5th rounder pitched in one game for the Woodpeckers and struck out 11 over 4 scoreless innings. On the season he has a 2.51 ERA with 2 BB/27 K in 14.1 innings this season, and probably won’t be in Fayetteville much longer.
Luis Rodriguez – Acquired in the deal that sent Julks to Chicago, Rodriguez has been a really nice get. This week, the right-hander tossed 5 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts in his one start for the Woodpeckers. He has a 1.06 ERA in 17 innings this season in Single-A.
Alimber Santa – Santa was a popular name for a few years in Spring Training but now appears to be pitching out of the pen. This week he pitched in two games and struck out 5 over 3.1 innings allowing just 1 run. Overall he has a 1.32 ERA out of the pen in Double-A for the Hooks.
