Astros Minor League Recap: April 9th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (5-6) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on a Whitcomb bases loaded walk and a Sacco RBI groundout. Gordon got the start and was solid allowing 2 runs over 5 innings while striking out 6. Whitley tossed a scoreless inning in relief in a rehab outing. In the bottom of the 7th, Hamilton connected on a solo HR to give Sugar Land a 3-2 lead. Murray tossed 2 scoreless innings bridging the gap to the 9th.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (1-4) lost 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first on a Castro solo HR and a Johnson 2 run HR. Mancini got the start and was pitching well but struggled later in the outing allowing 4 runs over 4.1 innings. The offense got a run back in the 5th on a Barber RBI single. Knorr pitched in relief but struggled allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while retiring just 2 batters. Sanchez was great in relief but the offense was able to rally as they fell 8-4.

A+: Asheville Tourists (2-3) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Gillis got the start and was great allowing 1 run over 4 innings while striking out 6 batters. The offense got on the board scoring a run in the 3rd on a Gonzalez RBI single. The offense rallied for 3 runs in the 7th on a Whitaker RBI single, a Gonzalez RBI double and another run scoring on an error. Santos pitched in relief but struggled allowing 4 runs and walking 6 over 3.2 innings. Chirinos was dominant in relief but the offense was unable to score again as they fell 5-4.

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (1-3) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

David started for the Woodpeckers and was pitching well until the 4th inning where he allowed 3 runs. The offense got on the board in the 7th scoring 2 runs on a fielder’s choice and an error. Smith tossed a scoreless inning in relief and Mayer tossed 3 scoreless with 5 strikeouts, but the offense was unable to complete the comeback as they fell 3-2.
