Another busy week down on the farm as the season continues to roll on. Here’s a look at some of the biggest developments across the system with this week’s Pipeline Report.
System Spotlight
Nick Potter – RHP – Asheville
Potter was selected by the Astros in the fifth round of the 2025 MLB Draft after spending two years at the junior college level and one season at Wichita State. Despite pitching primarily out of the bullpen in college, the Astros have transitioned the right-hander into a starting role. Potter’s best weapon is a big fastball that sits 95-96 mph and can reach 100.
So far, the transition has gone extremely well. Potter has posted a 2.12 ERA with 75 strikeouts over 63.2 innings this season. He was recently promoted to High-A Asheville, where he has been solid in two abbreviated outings, striking out 5 batters over 4 innings. His combination of premium velocity and success since moving into a starting role has made him one of the more intriguing pitching prospects in the Astros’ system.
Potter currently stands out with his fastball/slider combination, but if he can continue developing his curveball and refine his overall arsenal, he has a chance to really climb the prospect rankings. Even if the starting role doesn’t stick long term, Potter has the stuff and premium velocity to develop into a high-leverage reliever.
Continuing to Impress
Anthony Huezo – OF – Asheville
Huezo, the Astros’ 12th-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, spent a couple of seasons in rookie ball before earning his first assignment to full-season baseball. The 19-year-old spent most of 2025 in the FCL, where he showed significant growth. While he hit just .231, he led the team with an .856 OPS while adding 6 home runs and 12 stolen bases. Huezo was eventually promoted to Single-A Fayetteville, where he finished the season hitting .301 over 22 games.
Huezo returned to Fayetteville to begin the 2026 season and continued to produce, collecting 20 doubles and 14 home runs with an .856 OPS before earning a promotion to High-A Asheville. He has handled that jump well, hitting .260 with 5 doubles, 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 5 stolen bases over his first 20 games. Overall, Huezo has put together an impressive combination of power and speed this season with 25 doubles, 18 home runs and 35 stolen bases over 91 games.
The 20-year-old has continued to impress at each stop and hasn’t slowed down as the Astros have challenged him with more advanced competition. His breakout season has resulted in a significant rise up Astros prospect rankings, including the Top 30 right here at AstrosFuture.com.
Under-the-Radar Performer
Nolan DeVos – RHP – Corpus Christi
DeVos was selected by the Astros in the fifth round of the 2022 MLB Draft. He put together a strong season in 2023, posting a 3.19 ERA with 117 strikeouts over 98.2 innings between Single-A and High-A. Unfortunately, he missed the entire 2024 season following Tommy John surgery and was limited to just 14.2 innings in 2025.
DeVos returned to High-A Asheville to begin the 2026 season. While he posted a 5.98 ERA in the hitter-friendly environment, there were still some encouraging signs as he struck out 71 batters over 61.2 innings. He earned a promotion to Double-A Corpus Christi and has been phenomenal since the move. Through four outings with the Hooks, the right-hander has posted a 2.33 ERA with 24 strikeouts over 19.1 innings while allowing just 9 hits.
It’s been three years since DeVos’ breakout 2023 season, but after a long road back from Tommy John surgery, he appears to be finding that form again.
One Transaction This Week
Logan Hughes – OF – Fayetteville
While Hughes gets the headline, this transaction report is really about the newest Astros draftees making their way to Fayetteville. First-round pick Logan Hughes led the group assigned to the Woodpeckers over the last week. He was joined by fourth-rounder Kam Durnin, eighth-rounder Aaron Piasecki, 10th-rounder Taz Butler, 12th-rounder Owen Nowak, 14th-rounder Brady Thomas, 17th-rounder Ben Tryon and 20th-rounder Mick Uebelhor.
The Woodpeckers have been playing some good baseball, sitting at 24-19 in the second half and in first place in the Carolina League North Division. The arrival of the 2026 draft class adds another wave of talent to an already strong roster as Fayetteville looks to make a push for the postseason.
Promotion Watch
Who Could Be Next?
With only a month or so remaining in the minor league season, most of the promotions within the system are probably finished outside of a few potential moves during the final weeks. However, there is one prospect I think could still make a significant jump in right-hander Ethan Pecko.
Pecko is eligible for the Rule 5 Draft this offseason, meaning the Astros would need to add him to the 40-man roster if they want to protect him. With that decision looming anyway, there is a chance Houston could add Pecko to the roster early and give him an opportunity to help cover some innings down the stretch in September.
