Astros Minor League Recap: April 12th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (6-8) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

McCullers got the start for Sugar Land and pitched well in his rehab outing tossing 4 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning on a Price RBI single. In the 3rd they scored 3 runs on a Whitcomb RBI double and Price 2 run HR. Short added a 2 run HR in the 5th to extend the lead. Blubaugh closed it out tossing 4 scoreless innings with 8 strikeouts as Sugar Land won 6-2.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (3-5) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

Fleury started for the Hooks and was dominant striking out 9 over 6 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit. Sherwin put the Hooks on the board in the 4th inning with an RBI single. In the 5th, Cerny connected on a solo HR to extend the lead. Dombroski tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief and Sanchez closed it out with a scoreless 9th as the Hooks won 2-0.


A+: Asheville Tourists (3-4) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Pena started for Asheville and pitched well allowing just 1 unearned run over 4 innings while striking out 3. The offense got on the board in the 4th inning on a Gomez solo HR. In the 5th they got a Jaworsky RBI double. Urias relieved Pena and allowed a run over 2.1 innings. Leach was dominant in relief striking out 4 over 1.2 scoreless innings. In the bottom of the 7th, Guillemette connected on a 3 run HR to send the fans home happy with the walk-off as Asheville won 5-2.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (3-5) 

Game 1 – won 8-6 (BOX SCORE)

The offense got on the board scoring 3 runs in the first on an error and a bases loaded walk to Cauro and Hernandez. Rodriguez got the start and allowed 3 runs over 3.1 innings. The offense stormed back with 4 runs in the 4th inning on a Villarroel 2 run double, run scoring on a wild pitch and a Brutcher RBI single. Cruz relieved Rodriguez and also allowed 3 runs over 3.1 innings. Cauro added an RBI single in the 6th inning. Brown came on and got the final out as the Woodpeckers won 8-6.

Game 2 – won 6-0 (BOX SCORE)

Hertzler started game two for the Woodpeckers and pitched really well striking out 7 over 4.2 scoreless innings. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on Trujillo and Valencia RBI singles. They got 3 more in the 4th on a Trujillo 2 run HR and Spence RBI single. Villarroel added some insurance in the 6th with an RBI double. Burleson closed it out tossing 2.1 scoreless innings as the Woodpeckers won 6-0.
